Looking for information on Lydia Miller born abt 1802, Meat Camp, married Joel Bingham. Does anyone have the "Heritage of Watauga County", Vol. 1. (index listed article 440 for a Lydia Miller and Joel Bingham). In 1870 she was living with her husband, son, Joel Franklin in Towns County, GA. No record can be found for her after 1870. There are several postings on-line for Lydia that she died abt. 1885? in Haywood County? Most of her children were living in Macon County, NC. Lydia was born in Watauga County and most of her siblings died there. (Watauga County was formed 1840 from Ashe? - so was she born in Ashe?)

I just joined the Watauga Mailing List. I have found that most of my mother's family is from the Watauga, North Carolina area. Charlie H. Tester, Sr. son of Nathan Callaway Tester and Cora Lee Hicks married Living Presnell, daugheter of Paul Presnell and Okie Lee Heaton. I am looking for more information on Okie's parents. Their names were John Heaton and Emma Potter. Emma Potter, as told by my grandmother, wife of Charlie Tester, had about 6 husbands. She married first, John Heaton who past away not long after they married. They had one daughter, Okie Lee Heaton on 11 Nov 1894 (she was born in TN). After John Heaton, Emma married his brother, Samuel Heaton, we are not sure if this marriage produced any children. Then she married 3 or 4 men, one being Abraham Lincoln Presnell. Linc as the family calls him was the father of Paul Presnell (his mother was Catherine (Sis) Tester). Emma had more children, they were: Imma Jean Heaton (possible daughter of Samuel Heaton), Ruby, Gentry (grandma says Gentry used to go by Gentry Presnell but he was not Linc's child) and Warren who often went by Warre! n Green and Mamie. Mamie (possible Nickname) went off before the war and the family never heard from here again. Okie Lee Heaton was raised by Emma Potter's parents (unknown at this time). The other children were "shared" between the families. If you have any information or can send me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Hello Listers! Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. I just want to remind everyone that this list is for the exchange of free information and is not to be used to advertise products for sale. Rootsweb has filters in place, but occasionally something may slip through, as it did yesterday. Also want to remind you that the Watauga History by JP Arthur is posted online without charge to be used for your Watauga research. http://www.geocities.com/familysnooper/Arthur/contents.html Again, have a safe and happy holiday! I wish. I have never been able to tie Phoebe ISAACS (ca 1772-1833) to any one -- father, mother, or siblings. I've explored various ISAACS in western NC and in Marion County, Indiana where she and some other ISAACS removed to in the early 1830s. I continue to search and would be grateful for any clues or ideas.
