I am trying to find the link that fits my Manes family in Sevier Co. Tn. to the North Carolina Maness family.I don't think my family moved from N.C. I think N.C. gave the land to Tn.Where would I look for lnand records for that area for about 1780? Thanks E.Hollifield

Not sure if this info is of any use - so many folks look to present-day Washington Co. for records that might actually have been the 1st Washington County, NC - created by General Assembly. There was no Washington County NC from 1 June 1796 to Decembe 1799. In 1776 the territory which is now Tennessee was in North Carolina, known as Western Territory, Washington District; later became Washington County.
