    1. [NCWASHIN-L] Lt Walkers Rangers/Davidson Co Rangers for Territory of US South of Ohio
    2. RICHARD CARTER
    3. Hello: I have had many postings on many lists for above referenced information. Some have been irritated, Some have been interested, some had never heard of it, and many have offerred me much good information. Many have asked me to post what I find out. This posting is in response to those requests that I post My info. The U S Congress, in May of 1790, proclaimed the territory formerly claimed by North Carolina, That area which is today known as all of Tennessee, Northern Ga, Northern Alabama, and all of Mississippi, as THE TERRITORY OF US SOUTH OF THE RIVER OHIO. aka SOUTHWEST TERRITORY. The Rangers were formed in 1790, and served until 1796, when Tennessee became a state. At that time, the remainder became the TERRITORY of MISSISSIPPI The Rangers were apparently an organization which patrolled, and generally made themselves "useful". Apparently simular to a State Militia. This is all that I have found out at this time. I have received many helpful hints, and suggestions. For these I am very grateful. I am still looking for definite information on George NUTTERFIELD, who enlisted in Lt Walkers company of Rangers in 1792. I have received information from a lady who has a book on the Rangers, and does show George listed. I will keep you updated. Dick CarterDick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net

    1. [NCWASHIN-L] Wonderful Resource
    2. Linda Haas Davenport
    3. Most of us genealogists subscribe to several e-mail lists in our search for our family surnames and we spend hours each day wading thru hundreds of e-mails searching for one that pertains to our family. Yet, even with all the e-mails we get we can't possibly subscribe to every list that might, just might turn up one of our family names. RootsWeb has come to our rescue. They have set up a service that allows you to specify what surname(s) you are interested in and then they will forward to your mail box a copy of every message from any RootsWeb list, GenConnect post or Surname Post that contains your specified surname. This service is called PLM. I have been using it for the past 3 months while the bugs got ironed out and it's really great. You can read all about it here: (CEO's Announcement) ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/review/19991110.txt It's one of the few things at RootsWeb that is not free. It costs $24.00 a year - but that's a small price to pay. If you are interested here is the link that will allow you to sign up and to answer all your questions. http://pml.rootsweb.com/ Enjoy!! 1. [NCWASHIN-L] HOSKINS-Beasley: who were Nancy's parents???
    2. My ancestors, ANNA (NANCY) HOSKINS and JOHN B. BEASLEY II married ca 1814. They had two sons: JOSEPH H. BEASLEY (my g-g grandfather) and JOHN B. BEASLEY III. ANNA/NANCY died before 1828 and JOHN BB II married his second wife, MARY ALEXANDER and had ten more children. But I am trying to find ANNA's parents. The HOSKINS family may have been Quakers, though the Beasleys were Episcopalian. JBB II is buried at Grace Episcopal Churchyard in Plymouth. But I don't know where ANNA/NANCY HOSKINS BEASLEY is buried. Nor can I find her HOSKINS family. I am currently trying the Quaker websites, but if anyone knows about this HOSKINS family, I would surely appreciate your letting me know. 3. Folks there is a particularly nasty virus making the rounds. I normally do not encourage the posting of virus notices because so many of them are hoaxes. However this particular virus or worm is sending messages that give the senders address as someone you have in your address book or using a Rootsweb list address. Please go to: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/virus1.html and read the information about this virus. Some of the list managers are reporting that people are unsubscribing from lists for fear of getting this virus/worm. Please don't get in a panic and unsubscribe, just go read the information and then take the necessary steps to protect yourself. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
