Grateful thanks to Linda Haas Davenport for posting all those Davenport deeds. On this list I found an early deed for my GGgrandfather Joshua B. DAVENPORT (1827-1892) "et al." I sent for a copy of the deed and now have a line on his parentage which I have been seeking for more than 20 years. The "et al" appear to be his brother and sisters, heirs of Alexander H. DAVENPORT. And there is an Alexander of appropriate age with appropriate family in the 1830 Washington Co. census. Is anyone on this list able to do lookups of the 1840 Washington Co. census? I'd like very much to see what information there is on this family. Also, is anyone out there researching JARVIS? Joshua B. Davenport's (supposed) sister Penelope (Penny) Davenport married Edmund Jarvis of Tyrrell County in 1846.
Hi Linda I don't know how much information you were able to collect from Plymouth but I would be very interested to know if there was any information on the Clagon family. My Grandmother was a Clagon and she was born in Plymouth on Dec. 31, 1899. Her name was Agnes and her father was Smith Clagon. Her mother's name was Virginia. If you see any information on the Clagons, I would love to hear from you. Thanks. Candy(Beck) Burch
I posted this message last year (Jun 1999). We have many new people on the list and I think it's time to repost this information. The information on how to order the book is found on the Washington Co Site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncwashin/washing.htm When I came back from the Davenport House celebration I promised to post the names of family sketches found in the Fabulous Washington Co, NC: "A Tapestry (The County History of Washington Co NC)" Editors: Frances Bickel Jones and Shirleyan Beacham Phelps. I should have added to my post that the 1851-1873 marriage volume is the first volume at the courthouse. The courthouse burned in 1864 during the battle of Plymouth and again in 1873 or 1874. Some records were saved during the 1873 fire but the only thing saved from the 1864 fire was the deed records. If your believe your ancestors married prior to 1864 in Washington Co you will not find the records. Hi folks: I spent a fun day at the courthouse in Plymouth and a half day at the courthouse in Tyrrell. I brought back with me the index to marriages 1851-1873. If you want a look up let me know. I'll be abstracting all the Davenports & Ambroses and will try to get the index on-line as soon as I can. I have abstracted the surname Ambrose from the 1790 thru 1850 federal census records for Washington Co NC. I included several neighbor's names that were found before and after the Ambrose surname. So there are many names beside Ambrose listed. I am doing the same for the Davenport surname and they will be up as soon as I'm finished checking them. I will continue to abstract these 2 names until I have them up thru the 1920 census. You might want to keep checking back http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas/abstracts.html Also a reminder that Gordon Basnight has transcribed the Washington Co NC census records for: 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830 & 1850. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncwashin/wcensus.htm Linda lhaasdav@mindspring.com Home.page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas Marion.Co.AR http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion List hostess for -h.a.a.s/l.e.w.a.l.l.e.n/w.a.s.h.i.n.g.t.o.n n.c
