I am wanting some expertise on the subject of Neal's District, Warren County NC tax census given in 1805. I have a Joshua and a John Jacobs that are listed as being in the Neal's District Township of Warren County NC in 1805. I have a suspicion that they meant Warren County Ga? Can anyone give me some guidance here. ------------------------------ To contact the NCWARREN list administrator, send an email to [email protected] To post a message to the NCWARREN mailing list, send an email to [email protected] __________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word "unsubscribe" without the quotes in the subject and the body of the email with no additional text. 3. I've never seen a Neal's District in the Census Records of Warren County, but I suppose it's possible that there could have been such a thing in Tax Records for 1805 which was between Census years. There were NEAL families in Warren County at the time, too. However in looking at Ancestry.com's database, I notice that a further explanation for the Source of those records says this: "About North Carolina, Compiled Census and Census Substitutes Index, 1790-1890 This collection contains the following indexes: 1790 Federal Census Index; 1800 Federal Census Index; 1810 Federal Census Index; 1812-14 Muster Rolls; 1820 Federal Census Index; 1830 Federal Census Index; 1840 Federal Census Index; 1840 Pensioners List; 1850 Federal Census Index; 1860 Federal Census Index; 1870 Federal Census Index; 1890 Veterans Schedule; Early Census Index." About the only thing I can see where a listing for 1805 would qualify, would be an Early Census Index; however, there were no North Carolina Census in 1805, and a search of the North Carolina Census shows no Joshua Jacobs in Warren County at any time. The closest JACOBS were Jacob, Susanna & William Jacobs in Northampton Co, NC in 1800 & 1810; as a matter of fact, Ancestry incorrectly shows the location as Halifax, Northampton Co, NC, which didn't exist, and where the actual image clearly says Northampton County, not Halifax anything. Ancestry has done that to several North Carolina locations, where it appears that someone has incorrectly keyed in wrong location info; for instance, in 1820 they have Halifax County in Hertford County, North Carolina, so those not familiar with the area don't know any difference. There already are several other questionable North Carolina databases on Ancestry.com with highly suspicious, if not, downright bogus, info in them which longtime researchers have complained to them about for years. This one appears to be another one of those where at the very least, there is an incorrect location included. 3. okay. This helps allot. In doing my own research I could not locate where Neal's district would be. But there is clearly a Neal's district in Warren Co. Ga. So… it looks as if Ancestry.com is loosing credibility. at least for me. They have changed a few other things through the years. I have been doing this for 20 years and have see some of their references change.. What I am saying is that I printed documentation from 1995 and when I look up the same information the documentation or location has changed. Anyway.. Thank you everyone for your help. It would have been cool if it had been correct because the Jacobs were suppose to have come down from Va and I was thinking that they might have stopped over in Warren County in between census years. I will look for them in Georgia, but that does not make as much sense. But then who knows where they were. It was only 200 years ago. Thanks again. Linda Shaw REsearching. JACOBS, LONGS, GORES, BENTONS, SELLERS, HOLMES. of North Carolina.
