While John Bennett Boddie's work is well worth reviewing, it is my understanding numerous errors have subsequently been documented (I hesitate to call these "errors," since more likely it is just the "evolving" nature of genealogical research, with additional data having come to light.) Nevertheless, great caution should be used when consulting Boddie. And....there was more than one West Harris....and it is unclear as to whether there was a relationship. These Harrises appear to have migrated to the Montgomery/Rowan Co area...and I *think* there is some sort of monument (grave) there. HOWEVER....again, use caution, because if my memory serves me correctly (and it does sometimes fail me!! <g>), I think this monument was erected in more recent times by some descendants (possibly a DAR thing)...and hence, also is subject to some question. --Sandy>> Agree with you regarding Boddie but sometimes get clues from him. I have seen the old grave marker of West Harris in cemetery in Salisbury, Rowan Co. It has been a while but think he was outstanding in Rev. War and family had lived in Granville Co. prior to Montgomery Co. In latter county they lived near a river (the Deep??) which was dammed in this century for water supply thus graves were moved. West is in cem. in downtown Salisbury, the oldest grave... birth and death dates there. I have a Green Harris in Orange Co. who was right age to have been Green, son of West, but nobody seems to know anything about Green Harris, son of West. I made copius notes regarding the Harris family years ago and it seemed to me that one or more of the sons of West of Montgomery returned to Granville Co. I finally got so confused I just tossed the whole homemade chart. Ida Brooks Kellam in her Brooks and Kindred Families (mainly Chatham Co., NC) says Benj. Harris of Southampton Co., Va. had son Benj. Jr who removed to Chatham. Benj. of Southampton did have son Benj. Jr. Sr. named his g' son , West, son of Benj., Jr. This family turns up in Chatham toward the end of the yr. that Sr. d. in Southampton so seems reasonable connection to me. Is this in dispute? I am open. Mrs. Kellam goes on to connect Harris through Perquimans Co., NC, although I have not checked out her references.
