According to Nettie Jenkins Bowen's book on the JENKINS family (page 98) the Elizabeth Ford JENKINS who married William CHRISTMAS in Warren County was a daughter of William JENKINS and Elizabeth Ford. In the account I am trying to verify she is listed as the daughter of William's brother Jesse JENKINS and his wife, Martha HOUSE. This apparent inconsistency is complicated by the former source's listing of Jesse's daughter, Betsy, and daughters-in-law Elizabeth CHRISTMAS and Nancy FULLER. "Daughter-in-law", in colonial times, often meant step-daughter. Was Jesse JENKINS or his wife, Martha House, married more than once? Could daughter-in-law also mean married daughter, or niece? Could it perhaps refer to Elizabeth FORD, who married William JENKINS? Jesse JENKINS' sons as identified by Bowen, apparently from Jessse's will, were: Thomas, Jacke (?), Jesse, Joel and William. Their wives are not listed by Bowen, so I cannot define Jesse's daughters-in-law. Can anyone confirm the identity of Elizabeth Ford JENKINS? She was evidently in direct line of descent of the author of the second source cited above. Her identify will help me in determining my descent as well. Does anyone know the parents of Elizabeth FORD, wife of William JENKINS and sister-in-law of Jesse JENKINS? Tom Aiken
