    2. I have read that an Ordinary was a tavern/inn, often in the home of the owner. Many travelers stopped, from necessity, at homes of people they did not know asking to spend the night and for some food, so homeowners, tired of that, decided to charge. The guests ate what the family "ordinarily" ate. Thus the name "Ordinary".
