I'm sure I speak for Becky as well when I say thanks for posting this reminder, Nancy! When subscribed in "Digest" mode, it's easy to forget that hitting the "reply" button will leave the subject line as simply: "NCWARREN-D Digest [insert volume number]," which rarely catches anyone's attention. Not only is changing the subject line useful for current list subscribers, it's even more helpful for the list archives. Actually, far more researchers take advantage of Rootsweb's list archives than do actively subscribe to a list. The list archives (for ALL lists on Rootsweb) can be used in two ways: 1) "search" http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/?list=NCWARREN 2) "browse" (which catalogs all messages chronologically) http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/NCWARREN/ Descriptive subject lines are especially helpful in "browsing" the list archives and enable other researchers to quickly spot our messages - which is, after all, what we hope they'll do, right? ;-) I'm not subscribed in "Digest" at the moment, but boy when I am, I know how easy it is to forget about changing that subject header - so thanks very much for the reminder! -Sandy NCGenWeb CC for Vance County ------ On Monday, September 6, 2004, at 12:42 PM, Nancy Long wrote: > Please, A GENTLE reminder to use a valid subject line.
