Pat, Sorry I can't answer your question concerning the MACON connection.....but this part of your Laughter line is mine.... Annie Hunt Lampkin m. 3 DEC 1882 (at Warrenton) Leonidas Melanchthon Harris (note the spelling...it's Melanchthon, which is a good historic Methodist name <g>). Leonidas (who was known by all as "Lonnie") was the oldest child and only son of Snethen Philip Johnson "Nick" Harris and Hixie Basket. SPJ "Nick" was a land surveyor and Methodist preacher. He was the first surveyor for Vance County, and was the one who surveyed the lines for formation of the new county of Vance. Lonnie was a farmer. He and Annie lived in what's known as the Spring Valley area of what's now Vance County...very close to where the Granville/Warren line once was...but I am pretty sure it was actually in Granville before Vance was formed. Both are buried, along with Annie's brother, Frank M. Lampkin (B 17 Oct 1857, D 20 April 1916) in what's known as the "Wiggins-Basket" cemetery, across the road from Spring Valley Methodist Church, which Lonnie helped to form. (SPJ and Hixie Basket are buried here too, as are Hixie Basket's parents, Joseph and Mary.) Inscription on Annie's stone reads "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." Inscription on Lonnie's stone reads "Thy Trials endest Thy rest is won." Frank's stone is a "Woodmen of the World" monument. I'm not sure that Caroline is buried here...I don't recall seeing her grave, but perhaps I just missed it. I don't really know anything about her. After Lonnie Harris died in 1918, Annie Hunt (nee Lampkin) Harris went to live with her daughter, Mary Louise (nee Harris) HOYLE, and son-in-law, David Lee Hoyle, in the Careys Chapel area of Sandy Creek District, Vance (formerly Warren) County. Annie died 10 May 1937. I have their obits, as well as Lonnie's will. --Sandy [email protected] ================= nelson wrote: > 12.
