    3. Hi everyone. A researcher emailed me on Maps for North Carolina, and I thought my answer might be of use to others since many people seem interested in this topic. Here are a few sites that might be of help. The first is for topographical maps which are referred to in an article at Ancestry.com. Ancestry has a lot of tips and links in their LEARNING CENTER that one can use to help them in their research. I suggest trying it out by searching through the center. For the maps just follow the link Under the heading FREE ONLINE TOPOGRAPHICAL MAPS after you read the section in the article that explains how to use it. http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/eastman/1797.asp#3 Next, is a collection of old maps for North Carolina. Just scroll down, and click on the images to get them enlarged: http://www.georgehoward.net/tarheelmaps.htm Here is the Main Index to the site that lists many sites where images are available online: http://www.ihrinfo.ac.uk/maps/imageus.html#states Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps are available online. They have a few maps for North Carolina from the 19th century. This site does provide information about possible reconfiguration of your browser for access to the maps, which is a site from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, so I advise you to read it first to see if you want to do that: http://eresources.lib.unc.edu/eid/description.php?EIDID=861 (Click onto SANBORN MAPS NORTH CAROLINA) Here is a link to NORTH CAROLINA COUNTY FORMATION MAPS, which have clickable views of maps of NC from 1664 -1965. It does not contain any individual county maps, but it does give a good view of how the state formed during each year. http://www.segenealogy.com/northcarolina/nc_maps.htm A list of more recent maps for NC from the University of Texas at Austin might be of use to some: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/north_carolina.html By the way, the homepage for this site provides some interesting links for researching other things in North Carolina which you might want to check out. I use a GOOGLE.COM search many times when I wish to find possible research resources, so that's how I came across some of these sites. I would suggest looking through some of the above links to see if they may have something to offer that might help in your research. Good Luck.
