While I see plenty of references to a DAVID GILL in the Halifax County Deeds starting from about 1760 as a Witness, the only time I see him in an actual transaction is as follows: Frm Abstracts of Deeds, Halifax County, NC, 1771-1786, by Richard R. Dietz, GoldenWest Marketing Genealogy, 5812 Temple City Blvd, Temple City, CA 91780-2112 -- Entry #633 -(722) DAVID GILL to TRAVIS WEAVER. 7 Feb 1778. 133 pounds 6 shillings proclamation money. 345 acres, joining Dogwood Branch, Great Rockey Branch. DAVID GILL. Wit: AMBROSE HARPER, HENRY HARPER. May Ct. 1778.
