    2. Give it up Celeste! You are irritated because of your poor communication with your Apartment Manager, who failed to tell you about the Dec. 18th delivery of your book. So now you wish to shift blame elsewhere (anywhere). Get a grip, please! NCWARREN List members can clearly see that you are embarrassed at your own ineptness. Further you are blissfully unaware of the preparation and publication process for County Heritage books It is regrettable that you could not contact committee members. Here's a wild guess. Perhaps they have other things on their agenda? These folk are Volunteers, who lovingly prepared the manuscript, the photos, collected and deposited ALL FUNDS in Warren County, and then prepared the shipping labels! Just like you (not communicating with your Apartment Manager) could it be they also are human and made mistakes? Can you spell "L-I-B-E-L" Celeste? You may want to brush up on that word and its meaning before you continue your negative campaign. Most of us LOVE County Heritage books. Sorry you've had such a tough time. C. Heath By the way, we have the book and absolutely love it! It arrived on 12-18-02 just as yours did. We'd be happy to do any look-ups for folk who did not get a copy! ----- Original Message ----- From: <Heritage2@aol.com> To: <NCWARREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2003 4:17 PM Subject: Re: [NCWARREN-L] Warren County Heritage Book > Thank you for informing the group Becky! 1. [NCWARREN-L] Grover is ill...
    2. Grover Pope
    3. To all friends, relatives and associates my Dad is corresponding with: This Darwin Pope, Grover's son. I hate to the bearer of bad news but I feel it only necessary to inform you all of my Dad's condition. My father, Grover, suffered a massive stroke Tuesday at 1pm. This happened here at his home. It came on sudden and was very unexpected. Despite his chemotherapy which as some of you might know of he has been in good spirit and had been doing better than expected. His cancer was thought to have been removed successfully even though he has had a difficult recovery time. He finished his 4th of 6 chemo treatments last week. He was informed then of the effect the blood thinner he had been taking for his heart and the role it could play on affecting his thinning and thickening of blood with chemo. As stated, Tuesday he suffered a massive stroke. He is in Jackson General hospital in Jackson in room 635 if anyone wishes to send cards or such. The worst news is along with the stroke it has cause complications as we found out yesterday of the effect it has had on his throat muscles which is not allowing him to secrete the fluids which lay in his throat and should be passed or something to that effect. This has caused fluid to build up in his lungs now and begin to bring on pneumonia which is life threatening in his condition. The first day or so he was in and out and somewhat coherient to his surrounding. As of yesterday his fever has risen and he is not responding well. My father is basically fighting for his life now. I and my wife are at home tonight with my mother so she can rest here and will be returning to Jackson tomorrow. The next 48 hours are as the doctor says, "touch and go". They are giving him the best of care and comfort and we are all praying he become concious soon and with God's grace can find a way to fight. I felt it my obligation to let all of you whether friend or family, whom I know he enjoys contact with so much on here as he finds refuge getting online and keeping touch with you all for correspondence and for his geneology research he loves so dearly, to inform you of the circumstances and what he is battling. Thank you all for giving him happiness in corresponding with him and please keep him in thought and prayer the next couple of days. I will try my best to again group mail all of you any changes and outcome of this tragic thing that has feel on this wonderful man..my Father. Again thank you and I hope this was appropriate enough and finds you all well. He things highly of all his internet friends and family. I am not sure how soon I will back here at his computer to receive or reply to any of his emails. I pray soon, he himself can contact you all once again. If you will wish to write, that will be fine but you might not receive a response quickly but I will do my best. My email is desperado64_1@netzero.net if any of you wish to have me keep you updated perhaps more efficiently. Again, thank you all for your time and prayers.

    2. Thank you for informing the group Becky! The book is proving to be an interesting and good resource of information. Kudos to the Warren County Committee and to everyone who submitted articles and pictures!!!!!! It remains unfortunate that County Heritage fails to acknowledge their lack of responsibility in this issue. (1) Unresponsive to emails for 3 months; until of course I made my concern public on the listserv; (2) financial records that were ill kept <at least on County Heritage's part>; I was asked to show payment via a cancelled check; (3) then the miraculous discovery of documentation and confirmation indicating I had paid and a package tracking number to boot! (4) their need to 'save face' while not accepting their share of the responsibility by informing the members of this listserv <instead of my informing the listserv the issue had been resolved>. Well done County Heritage. You have demonstrated all of the textbook 'don'ts' for good customer service. 2. Debbie Jennings
    3. I am trying to find out any information on this PUCKETT lineage. Phebe PUCKETT was born "about" 1770 based on later census records. It is thought that her parents were Shippe Allen PUCKETT and Mary (LNU). She married William WARTHEN on December 23, 1790 in Warren county NC. However, in the same Warren county NC, there is in the marriage records: Sallie PUCKETT m. Avery DYE May 28, 1785 Nancy PUCKETT m. James Warthen June 16, 1785 Were these two PUCKETT girls sisters? Was James a brother of the above mentioned William? William and Phebe migrated to the Overton county TN area about 1802 and remained there until their deaths. Both deaths occuring between 1840-1850 as they appear in the 1840 census, but not the 1850. There were a total of 7 children born to this union. The only records I have of Shippe PUCKETT are as witnesses to Deeds in the time frame of 1765-1779 in the Bute county NC area, which later became in part Warren county. Any help on this lineage would be most appreciated. Debbie Jennings

    1. [NCWARREN-L] Social Union BAptist Church
    2. I attended my aunt's funeral on January 15, 2000 at Social Union Baptist Church (Nashville). My relatives know that I am the family historian of both sides of my family. While home my uncle told me about a midwife named Berta Hilliard. He said he thought she may have been a Ricks. As she birth children she recorded all birth in a book. I understand this book is now in circulation and being used to proof the birth of people without birth certificates. She delivered babies in the Red Oak - Swift Creek areas. I would like more info on ths lady and book. I hope someone reading this post knows of this or some family member I will be able to contact. I am looking for my grandmother's birth information. She would have went by the names of Berta Moody, Berta Coley or Berta Carter. She is listed on the 1910 census as Berta Moody with her mother, Zeatta Moody. She was 2 years old at the time and her mother was 21. They were living with Sallie and William "Babe" Carter. Sallie is Berta's aunt (mother's sister) and Zeatta's sister. On the 1920 census there is a Alberta Carter (3) and Berta Carter (11 - Berta's last name has now changed to from Moody to Carter, she is also listed as a daughter now) listed in William and Sallie's household. I have no idea who Alberta is. Zeatta is no longer listed in that household. Also I would like to know if anyone has heard of Rocky Land or Rocky Land School and Swift Creek School. It's the area with the big steel trestle bridge. The bridge is called Hilliard Mill Trestle Bridge and was built in 1925. My father was born in 1921 and use to walk across that bridge as a child. A lot of my family members attended these schools. I would like the history and enrollment info of both these schools. My relatives that attended these schools are now in their 50s and 70s. I don't know how long the schools were or have been opened. I know Swift Creek School is now open. I understand Social Union has a cemetery, if you know where the cemetery is located, please let me know. It never crossed my mind on Saturday to ask. My aunt says that is where my great grandmother, Tempie Devereux Whitley was buried. Thank you very much for any help you can give me. 1. [NCWARREN-L] Carter, Moody, Ricks and others
    2. Warren/Northampton--> Nash County, NC I am looking for information on John MOODY-m- Esther RICKS (Griffins Twp, Nash Co). His first wife was Harriet (last name unknown, 1880 Census). John has a lot of children ( Judge, Clyde, Robert, Nathaniel/Norman, Curtis, Sue, Pat, Annie, Cary, Billie, Johnnie, WIllie, Rose, Charles) between both wives but I am interested in his daughters Zater (Zeatta) and Sallie MOODY. Zater is listed in the 1910 Census as living with her sister and her husband, Sallie and William "Babe" CARTER (father: Henry CARTER (Warren County), mother: Priscilla TONEY (Spring Hope - related to William Toney Funeral Home). Zater never married Burl COLEY but they had a daughter named Berta MOODY. Later Zater and James ALSTON had a daughter named Lula Bell Moody ALSTON. Berta MOODY never married Frederick Douglas ARRINGTON but they had a son named George ARRINGTON who later legally changed his name to George CARTER (Nash County). Berta MOODY is listed in the 1920 Census as Berta CARTER only because she lived in the household of her sister and her husband. In those days if the male head of the family supported you or your children in their home you were called by their last names but illegally of course and that is how most people names are listed in the census records.Berta/Roberta later married Ulysses PITTMAN from Edgecombe County and they later moved to Baltimore, MD. (When they died they were buried at Cedars Hills Gardens/Abutus Cemtery or Mt. Minans Cemetery in Baltimore, MD.) Priscilla and Henry CARTER children are William, Luzianna, Henry, Wiley, Lias & Lazarus (twins), June and Mary. Sallie and William CARTER (1st marriage) children are Almeda, Etta, Henry, John, Josphine, Lillie, Sarah Ada and Willie. Beulah and William CARTER (2nd marriage) children are Arnetta, Elbert, Lajetta and William. The CARTERs attended O'Dell Baptist Church (Littleton) and Manns Chapel Church (Nash County). Some descendants still live in the Swift Creek area. Their church memberships and burials are at Swift Creek Missionary Baptist Church / Cemetery. John MOODY, Henry CARTER (Native American - Warren County) and William CARTER (1/2 Native American) were all listed as land owners. Their lands were passed down through their children and some brought their own land. The majority of the people above were listed as mulattos. Please email all replies to me. Any info whether large or small will be most helpful. If you have assess to listed surname mailing list please feel free to forward this query to them and anyone else you may think that could be of any help to me with my family. Thanks for your help.
