    3. Just got word that the 1850 census is now online at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/warren/census/1850/ I will get a link on the Warren Co. page ASAP and then get an index on the Warren Co. page to the images. In the meantime, you can got directly to Archives. We will shortly have the 1870 online as well but it may take a bit longer than the 1850 since they may have to order the film to copy. Will keep you posted. Nola

    3. Hi--On 8/5 I e-mailed the site asking if anyone is researching Reed/Reid/Read and Lemaster/LeMaster. The Lemaster/LeMaster is incorrect. It should be Lancaster. Thank you to all who responded and I hope I have individually contacted each of you and have told you that I will contact you after I return from vacation on 9/1. Thanks so much! 3. Wanted to let everyone know that the complete 1850 census images for Warren Co. will be placed online in the USGenWeb Archives this week. I paid S-K Publications last night and they have said they should be up by the end of the week. Now everyone can have something other than the index. Will post a link on the Warren Co. site when I get the word that they are online. Nola

    1. Martha "Patsey" DUKE + John LANGFORD
    2. Sandy
    3. Patsey DUKE md John LANGFORD, per a Warren Co marriage bond dated 25 July 1787 (Wm Beckham, bm). Has anyone run across evidence as to the parents of Martha "Patsey" Duke, and if so, who would they be? Also, this appears to be the John Langford, son of George Langford, per the 1780/1782 LWT of a George Langford naming sons John, George, Kerby, Joab, & daughter Delilah. Does anyone know of another John Langford around Warren during this same timeframe which might confuse this matter? Thanks for any help, Sandy

    1. [NCWARREN-L] Re: Warren County Heritage Book
    2. Nola
    3. It occurs to me that some on the list may have contributed their own family history to the Warren County Heritage Book. Naturally, most of the copies are bought by libraries or those currently doing research in Warren Co. but that leaves a vast number of people who are just starting their research and have no knowledge of what is even available, much less an inclination to buy every County Heritage book where they may have relatives. If anyone on the list who contributed to the Heritage Book is willing to have their work posted on the Warren Co. web site, just drop me an e-mail and I will post their entry under the family history section. The same applies to any early photographs that list members may have contributed. Thanks, Nola

    2. Nola
    3. I am trying to help someone who is descended from William D. Thompson (b. abt 1853) and wife Theodocia Riggan (b. abt. 1858). If anyone on the list recognizes this couple in their line or knows the parents of either, could you please let me know. There is a little extra info from the 1870 census which shows: 1870 Census Warren Co., NC, Six Pound Dist., Page 637 lists: Thompson Emily age 53 Edward age 21 William age 16 Herod age 7 Eliza age 19 Henry age 2 I found 2 Herod Thompsons on the 1850 Census that may be a clue to the Thompson lineage. As for Theodocia, I think her name is misspelled on the 1870 Census as Cheadosia, i.e. 1870 Census Warren Co., NC, Hawtree, Page 481 Riggins, Ellen age 39 Cheadosia age 12 William age 10 I can not identify either Emily (mother of William) or Ellen (mother of ?Theodocia) from the Warren Co. marriages that I have. 2. Nola
    3. Thanks to Ginger, about 2/3 of Sketches of Old Warrenton is now online, indexed and searchable. I only asked for help but Ginger is so speedy that she almost did it by herself. All that is left is my small part which should be up tomorrow or Friday. It is really fun just reading the book as I have done the last few days so hope you will have the time to just browse through it. Now I have another request. Does anyone have a copy of the Harris book they would like to sell or loan to me long enough to get it scanned. I hope that we can get permission to post it since the original is now completely sold out. If anyone would be kind enough to loan me a copy [if they do not want to sell a copy] I will pay for postage and with hefty insurance to make certain it does not get lost in the mail either way. Just let me know. Thanks, Nola

    2. Deloris Williams
    3. You know you are probably right that they are mostly covering records for deaths after 1913, but what I meant was some of these old courthouses might have records or deeds that might mention someone's death. The fact that there is a will in this case is more than a lot of the individuals leave and is a good record, for instance. But you never know what else you may run across in the back of some old file. I thought the books at the county courthouses were indexes and/or copies of the birth and death certificates which, as you say, were mandated beginning 1913 - although I have heard it is possible to find some counties having kept the occasional earlier record (I pass that along as mere hearsay, since I have not personally run across earlier ones). Are there other vital statistics books kept by the counties that I've missed? Please, please tell us more! Thanks, Sandy

    3. If anyone one the list has the book and is willing to scan a chapter, I will convert it to text and put it online. I have copied the first 8 chapters some time ago and will be posting them over the next few days but I can not leave home long enough to copy the rest of the book. Just thought someone might have it who would like to contribute a chapter. All I need are the images and I can take it from there to get them into text. It is a great book and the only thing I know of that is not subject to copyright protection. Just e-mail me privately if you would like to join in the effort. Thanks, Nola
