I've considered it for years and can find no proof. Just yesterday I contact a professional genealogist in the Raleigh, NC area for assistance. I want more than anything to prove once nd for all who John J.'s father was. I'm tireddddddddddddd of working on this. Thanks for your help. Sallie
Greetings list, At the risk of starting something I can't finish, I have the following notes in my database: John Judkins Egerton b. 9 Feb 1769 m. Nancy Harris b. abt 1756... (first cousins). Nancy Harris father was Charles Harris b. 1722 and Charles father was Robert Harris b. 1674. Two if Roberts sons were Joseph and Charles. Joseph's son was John Early Harris b. 1769 and the reported John Judkins Harris was his son. Got no proof, just notes from other researchers.... hey it's something to consider! Happy Y2K Macon Jones
Some other places to look online for obits/cemeteries, etc. for Warren and for Vance counties include..... (and Bill, I see no reason why you can't add links to these if you want to): [email protected] obituary boards for Vance and Warren: (note: you might want to read the use policy before you post anything to these boards, as Rootsweb.com, Inc. retains archival and redistribution rights to anything you post - this does not matter to some people, but it matters a great deal to others. http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html Vance: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/VanceObits Warren: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/WarrenObits Links for ALL GenConnect data & query boards for ALL North Carolina counties: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/NC.html Also, for Vance County, there are online data files at the Vance County USGenWeb site at: http://lightning.prohosting.com/~ncvance/data/ And Teresa has data files for Warren County at: http://www.kimbell.org/warren/dbase.htm Hope this helps, Sandy --- [email protected] Vance County NCGenWeb: http://lightning.prohosting.com/~ncvance/ ================= Bill Cribbs wrote: > > Hi Sheila, > My only pages for NC are: > http://www.geocities.com/cribbswh/obit/nc.htm > > and > > http://www.cribbs.net/obit/nc.htm > > There are cemetery inscriptions links in some of the counties. > Hope this helps. > Bill > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Sheila Parsons <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, December 30, 1999 1:24 AM > Subject: Re: [NCWARREN-L] Looking for obits > > > Don't you have a page for North Carolina Cemeteries also? Pardon me for butting in but John J. Harris was my great great grandfather. Thre is no documented proof that his middle name waas Judkins, unless you hve some and if you do, please tell me what it is and where you got it. As for a 2nd wife, John was still married to Nancy at the time of death and they were buried together. Her name was listed on the 1860 census and is where that comes from. I wonder if the censis taker got the info from a neighbor (which I understand was frequently done in those days) of if her full name was Mary Nancy or Nancy May Lnacaster as I have never been able to,locate her parents. Would you have that info. Sallie [email protected]
Hi Sheila, My only pages for NC are: http://www.geocities.com/cribbswh/obit/nc.htm and http://www.cribbs.net/obit/nc.htm There are cemetery inscriptions links in some of the counties. Macon, What I sent was from a Harris book, by Robert E. Harris, 2380 Crestcliff Dr., Tucker, Ga. 30084-4205. I am not related to the Harris family, but I do lots of research in the Northampton, Halifax and Warren Co area and so buy every book and abstracted book I can from that area. I also write about the area and so need these books for references sometimes. Here is some of what this book it has briefly: 1. Robert Harris (1674-1740) ---page133 2. Joseph Harris (1718 Isle of Wight co., Va. ---1797NC)--He married Jane Egerton [ page 196] 3. John Early Harris ( Nov 13, 1769 NC --1832NC) He married Sally Bobbitt & after her death he married Nancy Parrish --- [page 231] 4. John Judkins Harris (1808 - 18??) ---[pager 233] He married Nancy Lancaster. I do not know if he married again or previous as this book doesn't mention anything about a Mary. Dr. Harris mentioned that he got some of his information from a Leroy Allen Harris (L. A). Also that some information was added by the author, Mary Lib Taylor, all who are related to this John J. Harris. I can give you Mary Lib's address , but I don't know the others to provide any address. Let me know if you need more information. Becky PS-- If you need more information send what I sent to you back as I put page number so that I could check easier next time. Judkins, Epps sold 6 cows and calves, one feather bed and some funiture. It is determined that Epps failed to meet his obligations by the date agreed on and the property was taken by the said Judkins. I wonder if this Judkins is the relation for whom John is named? I would appreciate any information that you may have on Epps Jones also. Have a great Y2K Macon Jones [email protected] >>

Thank you so much - I had no idea you were looking this up for me. Your time is much appreciated. I've been trying to decipher if my family was born there or migrated there. I'm now assuming that they migrated from Mecklenburg County, VA since that's where the parents were. Thanks for your help. Dawn Brown Richardson

Brent, There is NO record of said marriage in the Warren County Marriage Bonds 1779-1868 Index. In fact, there was NO listing of either the Bride or Groom's Surname.in the index. For more information on the Index, see my response to other messages under the same Subject. Sorry, Alexs
Dawn, There is NO record of such a birth, death, nor marriage (1926-1940) in the Warren County Court House. I also checked the Delayed Birth Register. Sorry, Alexs
Bettie, Recieved about six request for lookups. Did not see this message of yours until I had gotten to it in line. My prior message was old news I guess. Sorry. But. you already have the best info available from the Court House. The records you were hoping to find did not begin until 1868. From the Marriage Bond Index Preface: "The act which authorized the marriage bonds was passed in 1741 and it remained the law until 1868 when the present form of marriage license was authorized." It is the Marriage License which give the names of the Parents of the Bride and Groom ... etc. Sorry, Alexs
Nana, I checked the Warren County Marriage Bonds 1779-1868 (Book Index, actual Bonds are in Raleigh) and found NO record of the Marriage you seek. There is only one Wilks listed and her name was "Hannah B. Wilkes; married William H. Edwards; 27 May 1824" >From the Book Index Preface: "The Compilation was typed and the index of brides was made under the supervision of the Genealogical Society of Utah, 80 North Main Street, Salt Lake City, Utah." Thus, I think it would be safe to say that your informant most likely was in error. Also from the Book index Preface: The original marriage bonds of Warren County, North Carolina, are in the archives of the North Carolina Historical Commission, Raleigh, North Carolina. They are filed alphabetically by the groom and may be consulted by the public." Hope this helps. Marriage Records in the Court House begin with the year 1867; the Bond Index Book must be used for earlier records. Alexs

Marriage Records in the Court House begin with the year 1867; the Bond Index Book must be used for earlier records. Birth Records begin in 1914. Alexs
