    1. [NCWARREN-L] GREEN/CHRISTMAS Marriage Question
    2. Ann Avery Hunter
    3. I recently found, in an online page of Warren Co. CHRISTMAS data, a marriage given for Martha CHRISTMAS, dau. of Thomas CHRISTMAS and his wife Sarah DUKE. She is said to have married John Christmas GREEN, son of William Graves GREEN and Mary Elizabeth CHRISTMAS, on 29 July 1790 in Warren Co. The problem seems to be that the above John C. GREEN was born 22 Oct. 1777 and so would have been marrying at age 12. In my Warren Co. data I have William GREEN and Mary CHRISTMAS's son John C. GREEN as marrying first Parthenia HAWKINS and then Delia Martin HAWKINS, both daughters of John HAWKINS and Sarah MACON. However I have no idea where I got this information. Is there any concrete documentation to show who the John GREEN was who married Martha CHRISTMAS? Ann -- Ann Avery Hunter Richmond, Virginia mailto:[email protected]

    3. Pat, Sorry I can't answer your question concerning the MACON connection.....but this part of your Laughter line is mine.... Annie Hunt Lampkin m. 3 DEC 1882 (at Warrenton) Leonidas Melanchthon Harris (note the spelling...it's Melanchthon, which is a good historic Methodist name <g>). Leonidas (who was known by all as "Lonnie") was the oldest child and only son of Snethen Philip Johnson "Nick" Harris and Hixie Basket. SPJ "Nick" was a land surveyor and Methodist preacher. He was the first surveyor for Vance County, and was the one who surveyed the lines for formation of the new county of Vance. Lonnie was a farmer. He and Annie lived in what's known as the Spring Valley area of what's now Vance County...very close to where the Granville/Warren line once was...but I am pretty sure it was actually in Granville before Vance was formed. Both are buried, along with Annie's brother, Frank M. Lampkin (B 17 Oct 1857, D 20 April 1916) in what's known as the "Wiggins-Basket" cemetery, across the road from Spring Valley Methodist Church, which Lonnie helped to form. (SPJ and Hixie Basket are buried here too, as are Hixie Basket's parents, Joseph and Mary.) Inscription on Annie's stone reads "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." Inscription on Lonnie's stone reads "Thy Trials endest Thy rest is won." Frank's stone is a "Woodmen of the World" monument. I'm not sure that Caroline is buried here...I don't recall seeing her grave, but perhaps I just missed it. I don't really know anything about her. After Lonnie Harris died in 1918, Annie Hunt (nee Lampkin) Harris went to live with her daughter, Mary Louise (nee Harris) HOYLE, and son-in-law, David Lee Hoyle, in the Careys Chapel area of Sandy Creek District, Vance (formerly Warren) County. Annie died 10 May 1937. I have their obits, as well as Lonnie's will. --Sandy [email protected] ================= nelson wrote: > 12. 1. Re: [NCWARREN-L] Shearin Web pages' new address
    2. Read the Warren pages all the time and thought for sure the names Wilson, Paschall, Bartlett, Swepton, and Sturtivant would come up somewhere and it did in the Edison list I copied last night. In early 1800's most of this line migrated to Rockingham Co. NC and then in 1840's on to Carroll Co. Va. Just had a stand still with Henry Wilson and who his father was...know he married Rachel Pashcall. and later Lucy Swepton dying in 1811(?). Also recently found that another ancestor, "Pepper" John Smyth(Smith) was married in Warren Co. in ,I believe, 1804 to Elizabeth Wilks. I always thought he was from Surry Co. NC til John Perry Alderman told me he had found it. John was a cook in the war of George Wahington's Day( as described in family bible) and got the name pepper from the obvious, alot of peppering the food. Any references or knowing where I can further look would be appreciated. Connie

Other MASON men shown in Warren in 1784 are Hunt, John, and Samuel. There are no listings for MACON in Warren County in the above listed volume. In North Carolina Taxpayers 1701 - 1786, there is a Gideon MACON 1755 in neighboring Granville County. There are also MACON listings for James, Thomas, and William in 1771 in that area from which Warren was established in 1779. In this volume there are no listings for MASON in Warren County or that earlier area but there are some in neighboring counties. Hope this helps. HAPPY NEW YEAR! -- ROB Robert G. 1. [NCWARREN-L] macon/Alston/Davis/Yeargain
    2. Gideon Macon was the father of Nathaniel Macon, right? Was Ann Hunt Macon dau. of Gideon? Wm Alston's (son of Joseph John) youngest dau. was named Mary Ann. She m. Edwards Rives of Chatham Co. and named a dau. Mary Edwards Rives. M. E. R.'s m. Aaron Gaston Headen of Chatham. They named a son Macon Headen. I suppose it was only as a thank you to Ann Hunt's Macon family for helping raise her as a child as never have seen direct bloodline between Wm Alston/Edwards Rives or the Headen's of Chatham. Another odd thing is that Wm Alston and Ann Yeargain named a son Orendatus Davis Alston. Thanks, Bebe

    2. Nathaniel Macon served in both the US House of Representatives and in the US Senate. He resigned from all his responsibilities on his seventieth birthday, an action I think modern politicians should emulate!

    2. oops. If it was Nathaniel MACON then we would know that his family was early Methodist. Bishop Francis Asbury preached at Yeargain's chapel often. Hope this is of interest to someone! Bebe Fox Winston-Salem, NC

    2. Thanks, all, re Nathaniel Mason/Macon. Guess I should look in Brunswick Co., Va, also, as Yeargain lived practically on the line. Was not Nathaniel Macon later a State Senator?? When Lt. Col. Wm Alston, son in law of Samuel Yeargain, wrote his will he left his two little daughters to the "care of my beloved sister, Ann Hunt (Macon) Alston" (similar, anyway). She was wf of William's deceased brother Capt. John Alston. Think Ann was Gideon's dau. So there was a close familial relationship. If it were

    3. Could well be a misspelling. Or, if it is a different clan, then perhaps some of that line moved into Warren by 1820...(that's assuming I even really SAW it in 1820...I'm strictly going by memory at this point, so I might be in error anyway). In any case, if the index in Wellman's book is correct, then MASON isn't found in Warren in 1820...at least not as a head of household. Frankly, it sounds to me like Bebe's reference must be the illustrious Nathaniel Macon. I think I was hoping the Mason reference were immigrants from Nottinghamshire anyway. <grin>...a bubble which you very well may have just burst. ;-) My HOYLE clan came to Warren ca 1819 from Nottinghamshire, so I keep looking for somebody who came WITH them! ;-) --Sandy ---- Ann Avery Hunter wrote: > > Sandy wrote: > > > However, and I don't have the 1820 census here to prove this...but I do > > think I remember seeing the surname MASON on it. > > According to Ancestry.com's census index for Granville Co. in 1790, > there was a David Mason there.
