    1. [NCWARREN-L] Gas price stuff
    2. TeresaR
    3. Hey all. As list owner I have to say please do NOT continue to send the Gas Price boycott information to this list. It has shown up on enough areas of the internet to know that the average genealogist is WELL aware of this! This is a list to continue the discussion of Warren County North Carolina Genealogy. If you have any problems, or disagree with this policy, Email me PRIVATELY and let's not discuss this any further on this list. As for everyone else, please, I do work and sometimes it takes me a bit to get to such messages. :) I will handle such things myself. If I had not seen so many "Please dont' talk about this", I would have handled this privately and only the one messages on this topic would have gone out. Therefore noone's time would be wasted. :) Now, on to genealogy!!! TeresaR http://www.lofthouse.com/warren/

    2. Is a rootsweb the proper place to stage a boycott on gas? There are alot of other things too high, but is this the way to do things?ARL

    3. My wife will probably be mad at me, because she doesn't like for me to reply to messages on the newsgroups to which she subscribes. Nevertheless, I occasionally feel compelled to offer my opinion when I think it will be useful -- such as now -- but please don't blame Eunice for this. I don't believe that a 3-day boycott of gasoline will have any effect on the price. Over the course of a month, you will still need to buy pretty much the same amount of gasoline in order to get to work, go to the store, etc. If you don't buy it on April 7-9, that just means that you will have to buy more gas to refill your tank on April 10. The net result is that at the end of the month, the total amount of gas sold will be the same as if there were no boycott. The only way to affect the price of gas in the long run is to buy smaller, more fuel-efficient cars, shop and work closer to the place where you live, and don't vote for politicians who refuse to cut the taxes on gasoline (which add up to about 40% of the price of gas) even though the government supposedly has a 1-trillion dollar budget surplus . Since this is off-topic, I won't say any more about this. - David Boucher ----- Original Message ----- From: Ginger Christmas-Beattie <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 21, 2000 6:45 AM Subject: [NCWARREN-L] Gas Prices too HIGH! > My Niece sent this to me and I agree with her on this matter so thought > it might be a good idea to share it with you. > > I will be a part of this and hope you will consider it. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Last year on April 30,1999, a gas out was staged across Canada and the > U.S. to bring the price of gas down, and it worked. I will be a part of this and hope you will consider it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Last year on April 30,1999, a gas out was staged across Canada and the U.S. to bring the price of gas down, and it worked. It's time to do something about it again. Only this time lets make it for three days instead of just one. The so-called oil cartel decided to slow production to drive up gasoline prices. Lets see how many Canadian\American people we can get to ban together for a three day period in April, NOT TO BUY ANY GASOLINE, during those three days. LETS HAVE A GAS OUT. Do not buy any gasoline from APRIL 7, 2000, THROUGH APRIL 9, 2000. Buy what you need before the dates listed above, or after, but try not to buy any during the GAS OUT. 3. If anyone one the list has access to abstacts of will or deeds I would appreciate very much if someone would do a lookup for me. I am searching for a family with the surname Birds/Byrds. They were from Franklin Co.,N.C. which derived from Bute Co. A lot of the old Bute Co. records are stored in Warren Co. as Bute was split between Warren and Franklin. I am searching for anything that might woud give a clue to the names of the orphans of Needham Bird or his wifes name. Also any information at all on the names of parents ,children or wife of James Bird. My best guess would be that this would be between the years 1770-1790. Once again any info will be greatly appreciated. Contact me at [email protected]

    3. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this! Patti, I think legally you are correct. You have a better standing if it is listed on the deed. I know of several cases in NC that developers have either taken over cemetaries or tried to. In reality if a cemetery is not kept up the loggers or others might not see it. (At least I am sure they would claim that. :>) ) BTW, what families are you researching? 3. Hello, I am probably sticking my nose into someone else message here, and I do apologize. From my understanding in North Carolina the land that a FAMILY CEMETERY is on is still the properly of the Family after the land is sold. So if the logger, contractor, and home owner rebuilding, etc. they are not suppose to touch the cemetery in any shape or form. I am NOT a lawyer, my information came from my mother, who family is from Brinkleyville, NC , when the family farm was sold, she ask about the family cemetery behind the old house who had control and say so on that piece of land and she was told it was still own buy the family forever, no matter how many time the farm change hands. Please if I am incorrect on this would someone let me know. Again, I am sorry for sticking my nose into someone else message. regards, Patti > [Original Message] > From: <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Date: 3/20/00 4:40:37 PM > Subject: Re: [NCWARREN-L] Williams? cemetary in Warren county. > > Anyone who happens on such circumstances should, if at all possible, take > photographs of any surviving stones.
