    1. [NCWARREN-L] Name of a Person to Contact
    2. Does anyone have the name and contact information of a person I can engage to do some research in Warren Co.? It involves the 1818 Tax List. I need to know from whom two people on this list acquired the land they owned.

    1. [NCWARREN-L] Williams Cemetery
    2. There is only one tombstone in the place - there appear to be other depressions and I believe there are a few field stones, but no other official stones. Because of the name of the cemetery in the deed, I suspect it was on the side of the family of Sarah Lemuel Alston Williams. Both she and her husband were Peter Davis descendants. Sydney and Sarah Williams had a number of grandchildren, on of which was Sidney Williams of Essex and later Scotland Neck. He was my uncle by marriage, and died last February 1999 with no children and no siblings. He left his land to me, my brother, and my mother, so almost by default we became owners of this cemetery, even though we are not Williams descendants. As soon as possible we deeded the cemetery over to the Harris side of the family. It is now the property of George Hux and wife Jeannette Harris Hux of Rocky Mount NC. She is a granddaughter of Sidney and Sarah Williams. David Gammon

    3. James, Thank you and thanks to the rest of you. Mary mentioned that Davis Gammon had relatives that owned the property at one time. I will print these e-mails and send them to her. Those of you who do not know Mary "Lib" Taylor are missing a real treat when it comes to information on the families in Warren County NC. Thanks again Ginger "James E. 2. Dawn, I have a Hixie Brown as being the daughter of Archibald Brown and Tabitha Twisdale. Hixie was married to Pleasant Baskett 11 Jan 1810. Hixie was the second wife of three for Pleasant. I have the names of their children. One was named Tabitha, probably after Hixie's mother.

    2. I can settle the Williams Cemetery controversy, because my family onced owned the land where it is located. In the deed it referred to as the "Newell - Alston Cemetery." There are obviously a number of graves, but the only one with a tombstone is the grave of Sarah L. Williams, wife of Sydney Williams. She was Sarah Lemuel Alston before her marriage, the daughter of Thomas Peterson Alston and Sarah Newell. David Gammon Raleigh NC

    3. I am very sorry but my new book will be delayed another month. I have to order new covers and it will be bound in the "Perfect Binding" instead of the spiral binding. I had hoped it would be finished and ready for shipping by the middle of April. Looks more like Mid May. Then I will take a break for a couple of months before starting the next one. Ginger

    2. Dawn Richardson
    3. Hello - - - I was wondering if anyone has information on Hixie BROWN. There are more than one Hixie. I'm interested in the following one, though the others may bring leads. FamilySearch.Com provided the following: Archibald BROWN Sex: M Marriage(s): Spouse: Martha SMITH Marriage: 15 Dec 1830 Warren, North Carolina I believe they had a daughter named Hixie b. abt 1836. I can't confirm this because I lost my notes. Does anyone know who the children of Archibald and Martha were? Thanks, Dawn Brown Richardson [email protected] ALLGOOD, BROWN, RICHARDSON

    3. Celeste, I don't know how reliable this information is but the book "Sketches of Old Warrenton" by Lizzie Wilson Montgomery says Pg 90 "The first owner of the store, as I remember, was a Mr. Perkinson, well known in the town as "Drug Perkinson," who came to Warrenton from Petersburg. It was afterwards owned and used as a drug store, by Jack Nicholson, who moved to Texas to live in 1867." Page 373 - "Across the wheat field, from Mrs. Macon's on the west, is the home of Mrs. Thomas, built and occupied by Jack Nicholson, a druggist in Warrenton, for some years. Before the war he married Miss Bettie Williams, daughter of William C. Williams. A few years after the Civil War, he, with his family moved to Texas to live, where he became a successful man. They died in their far-away home, leaving several children." I know this doesn't answer your questions, but I thought it might help you find more information. I don't have the actual "Bible" record only a written copy of the page from a Bible belonging to Alexander McMillan Basket and in the possession of his daughter-in-law prior to the letter written in 1936 by Mrs Turner. (See my earlier post.) Mrs. Turner states in the 1936 letter that she copied the record. She is/was a descendant of Joseph Bonapart Basket. I got the record from James Basket's Rev.
