    1. [NCWARREN-L] court minutes lookup
    2. Angela Rhodes
    3. If anyone has a copy of Warren court minutes of late 1700's and early 1800's I would appreciate very much a look up. Another researcher sent me some info stating that there is a reference of a Jesse Bird being the child of Needham Bird. The only info given was "court minutes- page-285. Can anyone tell me what these court minutes state. Contact me at directly [email protected] as I am not a list member. Thanks

    1. [NCWARREN-L] JENKINS/CHRISTMAS
    2. This is addressed primarily to Lew Jenkins whose ahnentafel was posted and forwarded to me. Hi, Lew-- You and I have an interest in common concerning the JENKINS line, included in your posting of your CHRISTMAS family. As there are several points at which we differ I'll offer my version and invite your comments. Let me report at the outset that much of my information comes from the book THE JENKINS FAMILY OF VIRGINIA AND NORTH CAROLINA by Nettie Jenkins Bowen. In nearly all cases it had been discovered previously by my own research and the "legends" of my JENKINS relatives. That does not mean it is correct--I am just identifying my sources. Starting with #17 on your ahnentafel, Elizabeth Ford Jenkins, marriage 23 May 1790 to William Christmas, I note that you identify Elizabeth as a daughter of Jesse Jinkins and Martha House. The Bowen book shows that Jesse Jenkins married Martha _____?, but it lists no daughter named Elizabeth, although it includes a daughter-in-law Elizabeth Christmas. Evidently a son of Jesse and Martha JENKINS married Elizabeth Christmas. It does show that Betsy JENKINS, daughter of William JENKINS and Elizabeth FORD, married William CHRISTMAS of Warren County, NC, citing "Halifax County deeds from Robert Chappell James Story; William Jenkins to his sons 1807." This William JENKINS was an elder brother of the Jesse JENKINS to whom you referred. The Bowen book also reported that another brother, Thomas, married Tabitha HOUSE, daughter of William. Whether Elizabeth's father was Jesse or Elizabeth, her grandparents would be Mansfield and Patience JENKINS, according to my findings. I have not encountered the name Mansford previously in this connection. There were many descendants named Mansfield, and that name appears in the records of Richmond Co and Old Rappahannock Co, Virginia, as well. In the Bowen book, "Mansfield Jenkins of Richmond County, Virginia, second son of William, b ca 1708 d 1755; m Patience____? ca 1732.." Although I have found no documentation of the maiden name of Patience, others have tended to agree that it was HOOD. Their children were listed as: John, Mansfield, James, William, Thomas, Jeremiah, Elizabeth, Jesse and Molly To proceed to your eighth generation I have William JENKINS, born c1675, died 1720; married Elizabeth SKELDERMAN c1698. Their children were listed as: John, Mansfield, James, Harman, Martha Elizabeth, Sarah and Mary. The ninth generation would include parents of Elizabeth, Harman SKELDERMAN and his wife, Martha. I found an act of naturalization by the Virginia Assembly for Harman KELDERMAN, a Hollander. I have found no record of William JENKINS' parents, but there was a power of attorney recorded earlier in Old Rappahannock County from Will JENKINS, merchant of the city of Bristol, which might be a clue. According to information collected by my maternal aunts, probably from oral testimony of their JENKINS ancestors, Billy JENKINS was the earliest of this line. He would seem to correlate with William, who married Elizabeth FORD. He had issue, in addition to William Ford Jenkins and Elizabeth JENKINS, sons Jesse (my ancestor) and Cannon, who were not mentioned in the Jenkins book. They married sisters Martha (Patsy) and Sarah BRADLEY. Your comments and sources would be appreciated. Tom ([email protected])

    1. [NCWARREN-L] Books by other authors!
    2. Ginger Christmas-Beattie
    3. Ancestral Tracks has been asked if we will list a book by another author on our website. My husband and I are willing to put a page on our web page for other author's BOOK REVIEWS. This page will list books written by people like yourself and a review of the book. In the review we will link to your e-mail address, or we will create an order form that will give your address as well as your e-mail address if anyone wishes to order your book. We would need to read your book in order to give it a review. Anyone wishing to submit a book for a review will be allowed to have a connection on our site. The main page will be BOOK REVIEWS on books by other authors. From there we will design a page for each of the participating authors. That page will be approved by the author before being placed for view to the general public. If this is of interest to you we will be more than glad to create this page for your book. Ginger

According to my grandfather, Frank C., he talked about going to South America and tried to persuade Frank to accompany him. Over the years, when unidentified bodies were located, my grandfather was called to try to identify him but was never successful. George was married to Lillian P. Adcock and had four children including twin girls. He was born in Warren Co., NC about 1880 but I don't know where he disappeared from except that it was in NC. Any suggestions? Gail Shearin Dupree

Our Books have a NEW LOOK all of our books will be in "perfect binding" from now on. The Perfect binding is that of the average paperback book binding and they will be 8.5 X 11 with 200 pages each. We hope this will be more user friendly. Warren County, North Carolina Minutes to the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions Volume I through V are transcribed from the original documents and fully indexed, they also include a glossary of terms unique to the judicial system or the time period of each volume. We have also included a period map of North Carolina and calendars for the years covered in each volume. Each book contains about 200 pages of valuable information to the researcher in your library. They will enhance your North Carolina section by providing hundreds of Surnames and local history of the people and the workings of the fledgling county from 1780 through 1805. The Minutes to the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions is the lowest court of record in the Warren County, North Carolina area. This court met every three months throughout the year. From a researcher's point of view the names of more people will appear here more than any other single source of records and some names will only appear here. There are deeds that are proved and registered, administration of wills that are presented and proved, intestate records, the construction of county roads and bridges across waterways, the licensing of taverns and eating houses, the Tax officials and their Districts among other things.
