    1. [NCWARREN-L] Old Rodwell House, Norlina (fwd)
    2. Please see below. Keying error on first try. Sorry. -------- Forwarded message -------- Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 11:29:51 -0400 From: carol_simpson@springmail.com Reply-to: carol_simpson@springmail.com To: NCWARREN_L@rootsweb.com Subject: Old Rodwell House, Norlina In searching for the Rodwell Cemetery looking for my grt grt grandmother, Mary Polly Adams Dowtin, we found the old Rodwell farm house. What a fasinating find!!!! Of course it is really in decay with walls missing, vines & trees all over it, etc., and too dangerous to enter. But just awesome to look at. It was three stories with gingerbread, brick first floor, & must have been something out of "Gone with the Wind"!. It was also very sad to see such a grand "lady" lost forever. If anyone has a picture of the Rodwell house you can copy and fax to me or can direct me to a link or book that might have it, I would really appreciate it. I really want to see what "she" looked like in her time. (Sarah Rodwell m. Capt. Wm. Anthony Dowtin, my grt grt Uncle.) Sincerely, Carol

    1. [NCWARREN-L] Re: More Deed Records on Bute Co. web page
    2. N. Duffy
    3. Wanted to let everyone know I have just finished posting the remainder of Deed Book A for Bute Co. The index is running now and it should be searchable in about 5 minutes at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbute/ For those locally, can anyone tell me the name of a Warren Co. highschool history teacher? I was told there was one who might have students willing to work on our Bible records. I have a few dollars burning a hole in my pocket and I would love to spend it by giving some highschool student a few hours work. There is a tremendous interest in the Bible records and I do not doubt we can get them all transcribed if we can just get legible copies. Thanks, Nola nduffy@patch.net

    3. I have just heard from someone that the menu at the top of the screen is not showing up on their browser which makes it impossible for them to see the menu. I thought that all the browers that people were still using supported frames. This person could see the bottom frame but not the top one. If anyone else has had a problem seeing the menu at the top of the page, please let me know so I can figure out what is wrong. Thanks, Nola

    3. I have just finished posting Bute County Record Book 2 on the Bute Co. GenWeb page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbute/ Again, I plead that if you have a personal page with Bute County ancestors, please let me know so that I can provide a link. Also, if you have any transcribed Wills, Deeds, etc., give yourself the gift of a warm fuzzy feeling by sharing. I looked at the microfilm for Bute Co. Wills today and it is VERY DIFFICULT to read. I would love to post transcriptions of all the Wills but I think it would take me a lifetime to transcribe them from this microfilm. Nola

    2. N. Duffy
    3. Wanted to let everyone know the Bute Co. GenWeb page is now online - barely. I have just started transcribing and posting the material on hand. Ginger has prepared a complete index to the Bute Co. Wills and we have started transcribing Mary Hinton Kerr's Bute Co. records. I do want to ask, if anyone has ANY copy or transcripton of any Bute Co. Wills, please consider sharing them. Bute Co. only existed from 1764 to 1779 so I do think it is possible to put a copy of each and every Will online with a little help. Take a look at what we have started. Thanks to Sen. Kerr, we have permission to place Mary Hinton Kerr's books online. This will be a tremendous effort for me but she was a dear friend and I think this will be a great tribute to her legacy. She dedicated her life to Warren Co. history and genealogy. I am so happy that we can now make a small portion of her work available to all. Now.. Wills, Wills, who has the Wills? Check out our bare bones startup at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbute/ Nola

    1. [NCWARREN-L] cemeteries
    2. I would like to know if anyone knows of other DOWTIN graves on other family plots around Warrenton. I know one is in the Rodwell cemetery but must be so grown over that we drove past it and didn't find it. I found other graves in the Fairview Cemetery. A few visible graves are on the old farm land. I am desperately trying to find out where Samuel W. Dowtin was buried, his wife Bettie Price is buried in Littleton. Was he buried on the land, etc? Also would love to find the grave of Anthony Dowtin 4th but I fear his grave may be on land somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carol

    2. Several years ago I saw a map of old Bute County (now Warren County) and it had a Wortham Spring Branch shown near the state line in what is now Warren County. Does anyone know if that spring is still called that and who the Wortham family was that it was named for? Thanks, Barbara Warthen Wallace
