    3. So I'm wondering if this relative died of heart & kidney failure in a state hospital, was he a prisoner maybe?

    3. Judy, The term "inmate" was frequently used in earlier years as meaning "patient," which perhaps was the case here. One thought comes to mind here is that of Dorothea Dix State Hospital in Raleigh - which was a mental health facility (in previous years often referred to as a hospital "for the insane" - with "insane" actually meaning dementia along with any other number of mental health disorders, oft times, tho not always, those associated with aging, which today we simply would not consider "insanity.") Is there, per chance, a physical address of the hospital listed on the death certificate? -Sandy On Aug 29, 2007, at 10:09 AM, Judy Fries wrote: > So I'm wondering if this relative died of heart & kidney failure in > a state hospital, was he a prisoner maybe?

    3. Judy, See if anything within these documents helps you. You may be able to find something closer to the year 1940.... this report deals with 1904, but I think there are others. http://docsouth.unc.edu/nc/statehospital1904/menu.html On Aug 29, 2007, at 10:09 AM, Judy Fries wrote: > So I'm wondering if this relative died of heart & kidney failure in > a state hospital, was he a prisoner maybe? > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NCWAKE- > request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message
