Several recent postings have mentioned the Browne family of Virginia and North Carolina. The names in those postings do not seem to be in my family, but I feel it is likely that they were related to the earlier Browne family of Southampton and Surry Counties in Virginia. My family is believed to run as follows: Anne Browne, born circa 1661,in Surry Co, VA and died 1722; married Walter Flood, Sr. Her siblings were: Mary Browne, Jane Brone, William Browne, Jr, Henry Browne, and Priscilla Browne. She was a daughter of Lt Col William Browne, born 1640, died 1705; married Mary Browne in Surry Co, daughter of Col Henry Browne and Ann Freeman. He married (2nd) Elizabeth ?. William was a son of William Browne, born c1570; married Priscilla Shepherd, born c 1631. William was a son of Anthony Browne, born 22 July 1552 in Riverbank House, Bechworth Parish, Sussex, England, and died 29 June 1592 in the place of his birth; he married Mary Dormer c1555 in Eythorpe Paraish, Buckinghamshire, England, and died 1637 in Midhurst Parish, Suxxex, Englad. Anthony was a son of Anthony Browne, born c1527 in Cowdry Park By, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, and died 19 October 1592 in West Horsley Parish, Surrey, England. He married Jane Ratcliff, born 1532 in Cowdray Parish, Sussex, England. Anthony was a son of Anthony Browne, born c1506, and died 1548. He was the son of Anthony Browne and Lucy de Neville. He married Alice Gage, daughter of John Gage.
