    3. Wake County has a lot of missing records, among them the 1810 & 1820 Census. Some of the early County Court records are also missing, for an unknown reason. Several of the early deed books for Wake were destroyed in an office fire in 1832 in the County Register's office. Wake County also did not return a State Census conducted for 1784, where some counties only responded by 1786. Other Counties where the 1810 census were lost are Craven, Greene, & New Hanover; others lost for 1820 were Currituck, Franklin, Martin, Montgomery & Randolph. I don't know if anyone else has ever heard of an exact reason for this, but there are a few other resources that might help in researching those years for Wake County. Take a look at what's available at the following websites, some of which have actual scanned or abstracted copies of the Tax Lists that are available: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncwake/archives.htm#add http://www.censusfinder.com/north-carolina-census12.htm Deloris ----- Original Message ----- From: <GeorgeHortonFam@cs.com> To: <NCWAKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2007 9:58 AM Subject: [NCWAKE] Censuses > Can anyone explain what happened to the 1810 and 1820 censuses for Wake > County?
