    3. I used to think my Freemans belonged to the Granville group until the DNA was done. FamilyTree was the company doing the test. Don't forget you have to have a male carrying the surname of Freeman that is blood kin to you to do the test. There is a test for females but it doesn't work like the male test. Right now we are talking about the Y chromosome test for males only. Don't stop with the 1st. 12 markers, as that is way back in the cave days before folks started taking names. Do at least the 25 or 37 marker test - the more the better and will show closer kinship. The best buy is the 67 (think it is - it is somewhere in the 60s). My maternal grandmother was a Freeman, so it wasn't hard for me to find a male Freeman cousin. I see your Freeman line starts in the 1700s, so this may create a problem for you. Good luck.
