    1. [NCWAKE] 4th Regt NC Vols
    2. William Nowell of Wake Co entered a claim with the Southern Claims Commission which was rejected. The claim was rejected according to William's record because he enlisted in March 1861 in the 4th NC Regt NC Vols under Capt Wm. H. Harrison. I have been unable to find a regiment (4th or otherwise) that shows William Nowell of Wake Co enlisting. Does anyone know anything about a local Wake Co regiment with the designation 4th Volunteers with a Captain Harrison? William Loftin Nowell was in the 14th, but he is a much younger man. Also, William Henry Nowell was in the 31st, but he died in a Union POW Camp in NY. William Nowell is my 3rd great grandfather and was almost 70 years old by 1861. William had three sons and two sons-in-law in the CSA, but I cannot find anything on a Nowell in the 4th.
