Tee, I've read your marriage license quest on the list and wanted to tell you my experience. I have definitely obtained copies of marriage licenses after 1868 from the NC Archives, one from 1881 and another from 1912. I didn't ask them - I simply filled out the out-of-state request form available on their webiste, ignored the dates they give on it, and requested the one I wanted. I had to pay the $20 (no getting around that!), but I received copies of the licenses. No one said anything about it, they just sent them. That was a year or so ago, but it worked then. Joanne Gaudio
