This without a doubt, are family members descended from James Lockhart (Lockett) and Hannah Hawkins Smith. James was born in VA. about 1731 and made his will in Johnston County, NC: 2 Nov. 1798. It was recorded in May Ct., Johnston County, NC, in 1800. The name Lockhart ties into many Johnston County families..such as TOMLINSON and MITCHINER. The history behind the name Lockhart (changed from Lockett) is very interesting..and is discussed in a book written by: William A. Mitchiner, entitled: "The Mitchener and Mitchiner Families".
