Thanks for the information on the movement of graves. I note, however, that the story was from July 1, 2000, and therefore the graves mentioned therein have probably already been moved. You might also want to check out: http://www.wral-tv.com/news/wral/2000/0817-graveyard-dig/ And particularly the RealVideo of the WRAL news story (8/17) http://www.wral-tv.com/news/wral/2000/0817-graveyard-dig/graveyard.ram At the end of the news story about the Harris family is a :20 segment on the fact that many other graves are being re-located. Considering that I had many relatives in Oakwood Cemetery, and much of the Barbee family lived in the 1700s-1800s around New Hope Creek (and they're moving 45-60 coffins from New Hope Rd.), I'd be VERY interested to know if there's an on-line list somewhere re: relatives. It seems to me that if the NCDOT really wanted to find relatives, they would set up something so that distant relatives might be able to check. I checked the NCDOT web site, and didn't see anything applicable. On a related note, would anyone subscribed to the list have an idea where Sacred Heart Cemetery in Raleigh is? I contacted Sacred Heart Cathedral, and they did not have information on it, but suggested that it might have been re-named. Was "Sacred Heart Cemetery" as late as 1906 (when death certificate of Mordecai Barbee states that's where he's going to be buried). Thanks.
