This photo was probably taken in Raleigh as it came from a nearby estate. Rufus Morgan was an itinerant photographer who served in the Civil War in Virginia. He moved to North Carolina and was active in Wilmington, Raleigh, New Bern, Goldsboro, Morganton, Charlotte, Hickory, Oxford and Durham. This photo was probably taken when he was in Durham in 1876 as it was found in an estate nearby. He died in 1880.
