    3. Hello Listers, Kinchen Freeman who died in 1828 in Wake Co. was the brother to my direct ancestor, Wiley Freeman. Kinchen left six minor children; his widow, Tellatha, later married Hiatt Barham. In the book Vital Records from Raleigh, Wake Co., N. C. Newspapers, Kinchen's death notice was abstracted and his age was given as "about 85." The printed abstract reads "Freeman: D. At his residence in this county, on the 23d inst., Mr. Kinchen Freeman, aged about 85. RRsw Fri 4 July 1828 3:5 This age was confusing and presented a lot of problems when trying to reconcile his family, as well as the age of his siblings. I was fortunate to obtain a Xerox copy of the death notice in the newspaper. There is absolutely no doubt that the age reads "35" rather than the "85" as abstracted. I will be happy to scan and send a copy of the article to anyone interested. The purpose of this email is two fold. First, is the desire to set the record straight as to the age of Kinchen Freeman who died in Wake County in 1828. The second is to encourage everyone to use abstracted records as leads, but not as proof positive. I do appreciate anyone who gives his time and effort to abstract and publish records. But that should not absolve the researcher of the responsibility of verifying the information. I would have saved a lot of headache had I verified this information much earlier. Wanda Ridge

    3. Wanda, I have been looking desperately for a Serathna Freeman from either Wake or Franklin Co. If you are one of the rare people doing Freeman research, would you look for me to see if you have this person in your files? More info is: She was born abt July 1865. Married a Josiah Crudup Mitchell abt 1882 in Franklin Co.She had 5 kids named Avery Edgar Joseph Cleveland Mary Effie Jeannette Henry Gatha Crudup Pendleton Josiah Crudup died in 1898 and she lived mostly from then on with her sons wherever they went. I cannot track them around the state. It is hard to find them and she didn't use the name "Serathna" I don't think. Is there a nickname for Serthna? Do you recognize this person? Thanks for checking.
