    1. [NCWAKE] Raleigh City Cemetery Study
    2. Hello, My name is Stephen Bentley and I am a Planner with the City of Raleigh. You and / or your organization have been identified as an interested stakeholder for a study of Raleigh’s three city-owned historic cemeteries (Raleigh City Cemetery, Mount Hope and O’Rourke). Recently the City of Raleigh hired a consultant, the Chicora Foundation, to develop a strategic plan for the inventory and restoration of Raleigh’s historic cemeteries. This study will review each site, the City’s maintenance / management practices, assess any needed improvements, conduct a public meeting, review historical documents and more. This study is the first of many phases of an overall process by the City of Raleigh to strategically plan for the future of the cemeteries. At this point in the study process we are in the early planning stages. The Chicora Foundation will come from South Carolina next week to Raleigh to conduct a lot of their field research. If you have information you would like to provide for this study or would like to comment on the cemeteries please contact me at the information listed below. We expect to have a public meeting this spring to discuss the cemeteries. I will forward you and your group the specific date, time and location of the meeting when it is established. Thank you for you time and interest, Stephen Stephen C. Bentley Parks Planner Raleigh Parks and Recreation P.O. 3. Stephen, I'd just like to say that I am very pleased and impressed that the City Planning department has the knowledge and foresight to retain the Chicora Foundation for the project you describe. They are truly the best there is at cemetery restoration.
