    3. As an addendum to my query about the "ChB" and the "fee $150" - after looking with a magnifying glass, the $150 is really $1.50 - quite a difference! With that in mind, I wonder if the ChB stands for chainbearers, which I think surveyors would have used back then also. The two names seem to be boys in the 10-12 year old range and might be employed in that fashion. Does that sound right? Joanne Gaudio

    3. That sounds right Joanne; have seen it just "CB" or other times written out "Chain Bearers". It usually took younger men to do this. Have been told by someone with experience, that rods and chains were very heavy to carry around all day.
