Thanks to Hope for sharing the following: 1870's BOWERY SAVINGS BANK letters to NC w/ cover Here's a cover with a postmark / cancellation for NEW YORK, and a strip of three 3 cent stamps. It was sent to John T. West of Raleigh, North Carolina. Along with the cover are six letters, all with a pre-printed BOWERY SAVINGS BANK, New York at the top. The dates range from 1871 to 1874. They concern some bank business and are written by G.H. Coggeshall, Secretary (for I.P. Mailler). I believe all the letters were stored with this one envelope, and other envelopes were discarded by the addressee, that's my guess. The postmark date is Jan 26, and one letter is dated Jan 25, 1871, and that letter is likely the one that was originally in the envelope. Condition of the cover rates average, letters are good. _http://tinyurl.com/2sm3or_ (http://tinyurl.com/2sm3or) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
