    3. Okay... Comments from the 54 year old "youngster" who only feels like he is 70 years old. That is by far the best way to do it, Sue. In fact it is the only way which really works. Being on over 150 lists I see this discussed regularly. Reading tests conducted by speed reading researchers have consistantly shown that using all upper case not only does NOT help you read it better, but it actually makes it harder to read and slows you down. So when you use all upper case it not only does not really help you read what you are writing, it also makes it harder for your intended readers to read it. Some people say, "But it helps me.", but people who say that have been proven wrong over and over by actual reading speed tests. This is true for 2 reasons: 1) It does not make the letters any bigger at all. They are all still the same height and width that they were when they were in lower case. 2) Most of your reading, other than with kids just learning to read, is not actually done by looking at the individual letter, but is in fact done by looking at the shape of the word as a whole. When you use all upper case letters the shape of the word as a whole is destroyed. All words are shaped the same. Some are just longer or shorter than others. Besides, lists of rules for proper email use say that using all upper case should never be done. They say that in email it symbolizes that you are yelling at someone and is considered as rude. (Not meaning anything against Barbara who has already stated that it was a mistake and not intended.) 2. In IE7 or Internet Explorer 7, you should go to the upper right and click on " Page "....scroll to " Text Size " and set your options there for the size you wish to have. IN the new MSN Vista, there are several way of changing text or icons individually, but I doubt if many have gotten Vista yet, nor would I recommend it for another 6 months. Bill

    3. Just something to bear in mind..... The method for adjusting the font size display for email depends upon *how* you are viewing email. Adjusting the size of the font display within a web browser might help those who use "web-based" email, but I don't think this will help those who use separate email programs such as Outlook, Eudora, Entourage, Apple Mail, etc. If you use an email program, then you'll need to adjust the size and/ or type of the font display within the "preferences" options in your particular email program. Consult your program's "help" menu, or other documentation, for instructions on how to change the viewing preferences. Or do a web search (such as on Google) for how to adjust the font in XX-program. -Sandy >

    3. Hi Ladies, Just wanted to jump in here and give a tip (from another 70 year old) who isn't seeing as well as a few years ago.... To help you read your email and anything else, if you will go to your tool bar then click on it and in the drop down menu go to the "text zoom" , you can set the text for as high as 300X the size you are looking at now. The default setting is 100% and I usually set it at 125%. Of course, it doesn't make any difference when you're typing the text. I use Netscape as my browser so, I don't know exactly how it is done in IE, but I'm sure it is similar. Hope this helps, Sue Beth Balckmann wrote: >Thanks Kim! 1. Re: [NCWAKE] Wesley Ferrell
    2. There were two Wesley Ferrells. I was William Wesley or Wesley William Ferrell. He was the son of John A. Ferrell and Temperance Penny Ferrell; the other Wesley Ferrell was the son of Burton Ferrell. I do believe that they were probably related and lived in the same area of Wake/Durham County. James B. Ferrell, son of Burton and Mary Bunn Ferrell was married to my Great Great Aunt, Emily C. Cooley Ferrell. My great grand father was William Wesley Cooley. Sandy in North Carolina

    1. Re: [NCWAKE] Wesley Ferrell
    2. This is not my line, but I do know a lot about them. We're from the same community. There were scores of Ferrells. See if this helps. My best friend growing up was a Ferrell, Bonnie. I have the following from a book about the Powells. I know them also. Both families are related to me. As for Wesley and his family moving to Durham County, I know about that also. Durham County was established in 1881 from Wake and Orange. The area, where the Ferrells lived, in Durham County was part of Wake, (Carr Township) until 1911. The Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church on Carpenter Pond Road in Durham County was established by the son of Wesley,Zalpheus Purify Ferrell, became it first minister. I have a copy of a picture of Wesley. It is of very poor quality. I have all of the names, birthdates and other information if interested. Email me at SNackab@aol.com Sandy in North Carolina From: THE POWELLS', by Durwood Powell, Jr. Pub. 1994. pg. 115-129. From: N. C. Troops: 1861-1854, A. Roster, Vol. IV, pg. 475. Born in Wake County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Wake County at age 25, July 6, 1861, for the war. Present and accounted for until wounded in the right arm at Frayser's Farm, Virginia. Reported absent wounded until discharged at Camp Gregg, Virginia, Mary 20 1863, by reason of disability. Served in Co. G. 7th Reg., NC State Troops. Wesley William or could be William Wesley Ferrell was born around 1834/36 in Wake County to John A. Ferrell and Tempy Penny. Wesley's father died in 1848 and Wesley and seven of his brothers and sisters were placed under guardianship in Wake County. Wesley was released from guardianship on 20 July 1852 when he became of age. He married Catherine Terry in Wake County on 13 December 1854, and they had at least nine children. All were listed in the Ferrell family bible except Catherine. She was listed with the family in the 1860 Wake County Census. It is possible that Melvina and Catarine are the same person, especially when looking at the short time period betwee December 1859 and March 1861. Family lore has it that Wesley fathered 23 children with his two wives. Wesley volunteered for service in the Army of the Confederacy in 1861. It is interesting that Ovetta nd Roetta Ferrell, apparently twins were born on 12 April 1863, less than on month before Wesley was discharged. He apparently did some of his recuperating at home after being wounded. Wesley remarried in Wake County on 22 September 1877, a few months after Catharine, his first wife died, probably in childbirth with their youngest child, James A. Ferrell, who was born on 14 May 1877. Artelia Pope, his second wife, was born in Wake County on 5 February 1859, and died in Durham County 30 August 1942. She and Wesley had at least eleven children. Eighteen of the named children of Wesley William Ferrell were listed in the family bible. If they exceeded that number their names were not in the bible through oversight or neglect. Some of them could have been stillborns and maybe not named, but then why should family lore count them in its tally?

    3. Thanks, Phillip. I don't THINK that's the Ferrells I'm after - but they have to be the most aggravating family I'm researching! And the fact that every branch uses the same few names over and over makes it impossible! I feel fairly confident that the line I'm after is the Wesley-Catherine Terry-Artelia Pope line, and they left Wake for Durham Co. in the early 1900s. Thanks for the help! Joanne Gaudio

    3. Joanne, can't help with this Burton Ferrell, but we had a Burton Ferrell born 1806, in the Montgomery Co., N.C. census and his wife was also Mary, I believe. My next door neighbor for 40+ years, is a Ferrell out of this Burton and he has a family album covering their branch; although I don't believe the album goes beyond him. My reason for mentioning this, is that I suspect these Ferrells migrated out of Wake early on with others such as Moodys, Birds, and most likely others in case you ever need to look at uncles and cousins of your Burton. In Dec 1854 a Wesley Ferrell married Catherine Terry in Wake Co. (after her death he married Artelia Pope). In Dec 1857 a Wesley Ferrell married Pennina Gully in Wake Co. (Burton & Mary lived in Oak Grove) SO, my question is - which Wesley (really William Wesley or Wesley William) is the son of Burton Ferrell and Mary Bunn? Proximity in 1860 and the fact that in one census Catherine's husband used the middle initial W suggests that the William-Catherine couple is Burton's son, but who, then, is the other Wesley???
