Around 1825, a wave of families migrated from eastern Wake County and southeastern Franklin County to the Pickens/Greene/Tuscaloosa Counties of Alabama. Another wave went in about 1835. The connection of your family to the Stricklands and Hintons indicates that they are probably from this group. And if you take your line and look on Worldconnect, someone has posted on this exact family back to the Brownes of the tidewater VA area, which is exactly where the Stricklands came from. The names in those postings do not seem to be in my family, but I feel it is likely that they were related to the earlier Browne family of Southampton and Surry Counties in Virginia. My family is believed to run as follows: Anne Browne, born circa 1661,in Surry Co, VA and died 1722; married Walter Flood, Sr. Her siblings were: Mary Browne, Jane Brone, William Browne, Jr, Henry Browne, and Priscilla Browne. She was a daughter of Lt Col William Browne, born 1640, died 1705; married Mary Browne in Surry Co, daughter of Col Henry Browne and Ann Freeman. He married (2nd) Elizabeth ?. William was a son of William Browne, born c1570; married Priscilla Shepherd, born c 1631. William was a son of Anthony Browne, born 22 July 1552 in Riverbank House, Bechworth Parish, Sussex, England, and died 29 June 1592 in the place of his birth; he married Mary Dormer c1555 in Eythorpe Paraish, Buckinghamshire, England, and died 1637 in Midhurst Parish, Suxxex, Englad. Anthony was a son of Anthony Browne, born c1527 in Cowdry Park By, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, and died 19 October 1592 in West Horsley Parish, Surrey, England. He married Jane Ratcliff, born 1532 in Cowdray Parish, Sussex, England. Anthony was a son of Anthony Browne, born c1506, and died 1548. He was the son of Anthony Browne and Lucy de Neville. He married Alice Gage, daughter of John Gage. Thanks to Hope for sharing the following: 1870's BOWERY SAVINGS BANK letters to NC w/ cover Here's a cover with a postmark / cancellation for NEW YORK, and a strip of three 3 cent stamps. It was sent to John T. West of Raleigh, North Carolina. Along with the cover are six letters, all with a pre-printed BOWERY SAVINGS BANK, New York at the top. The dates range from 1871 to 1874. They concern some bank business and are written by G.H. Coggeshall, Secretary (for I.P. Mailler). I believe all the letters were stored with this one envelope, and other envelopes were discarded by the addressee, that's my guess. The postmark date is Jan 26, and one letter is dated Jan 25, 1871, and that letter is likely the one that was originally in the envelope. Condition of the cover rates average, letters are good. _http://tinyurl.com/2sm3or_ (http://tinyurl.com/2sm3or) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

There are records at the web site listed below. I have a (3rd) great uncle who was committed to Dix Hospital not long after it opened in 1856. Both of his parents had died before 1860, and his five brothers were moving to AL. One of his brothers had him committed in 1858. He does show up on the 1850 Wake Co Census as a "lunatic." I didn't find him on the 1860 census, but in 1870 he is listed as an inmate at the NC Insane Asylum. I don't if he was buried in the Dix Cemetery or the family cemetery. But, the family cemetery no longer exists. _www.dhhs.state.nc.us/mhddsas/DIX_ (http://www.dhhs.state.nc.us/mhddsas/DIX) Phyllis Mistrot ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
