    1. [NCWAKE] Hunters in Wake County
    2. Nancy D Breidenthal
    3. To all of you who have been conversing about Theophilus Hunter: Does anyone have any knowledge of a James and Robert Hunter who moved to Rutherford County, TN before 1840? OR: Do you know of any relationship in Wake County between the Hunters and any JONES family? In Rutherford County, my Matthew and Sarah Jones, and their relative William Jones resided close to Robert Hunter. DARLING Jones, son of Matthew, witnessed the sale of a slave from Robert Hunter in 1841. Other families associated with them were the THORNs, SMITHs, and WARDs. Some children of these Rutherford Jones were named Samuel PASCHALL , ANDERSON, and ABEL. I'm trying to discover the NC county of origin for my Matthew and Sarah Jones, so in light of the surname, I have to follow associated families. Nancy

    3. To Carol Canady - I tried the address you gave me - cncanady@aol.com - but it came back as undeliverable, so here it is on the list - hope it gets to you. Hi Carol, You may have sent me Liles info in the past. Quite a few folks on the Wake list have helped me out wonderfully! What I was really wondering was how the area Riley Hill got its name. I have a theory - not, unfortunately, subject to any real hard proof - about the family of Jane Riley, who married James W. Liles and was the mother of my great-grandmother Alice Liles Pearce. I was wondering if the name "Riley" for that area might have come from that Riley family. Joanne Gaudio

    3. Betty I found this snippet of information Sir Edmund Halley is credited with making the first observations of Bailys beads during the eclipse of 22 April 1715. They were also seen by Maclaurin from Edinburgh during the annular eclipse of 1 March 1737 and by Williams from Revolutionary War America on 27 October 1780 (see Chapter 1) from just outside the path of totality. But it was Francis Bailys widely disseminated description of the phenomenon during the annular eclipse of 15 May 1836 that led to their bearing his name thereafter. http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/~rhill/alpo/eclstuff/observeeclipses/chapter9.htm (bold type by me) (google search = "total eclipse" revolutionary war) However, I also found many documents relating to your James Hall in Johnston N. C.( Rev War- Revolutionary War Pension) on Footnote.com. I just subscribed for a month ($7.95) and thought I'd check. You may have all this already, but it's worth looking at., I think. >Does anyone know what year the sun was totally eclipsed in the vicinity >of Wake or Johnston Co. NC? 1. [NCWAKE] Riley Hill Section of Wake Co.
    2. Joanne Gaudio
    3. I've been working on my Liles family connections and reading the sections in the Wake Heritage Book written by Luther Calvin Liles, Jr. He mentions the Riley Hill section of Wake Co. a number of times as the area in which members of the Bourbin Liles family lived. Can someone tell me where this is? And even more importantly, how it got it's name? I'm very interested in the family of James Duncan and Mary Polly Nutt Riley in Wake Co. - I have a theory that they were the parents of the Jane Riley ,who married James W. Liles, and also of Burrilda Riley, who married William A. Rhodes. And I know John Nutt, Mary Polly's father, had land in the general area around what is now Wendell. So I'm wondering if there's a connection. There's also another Riley connection in that general area - William Jonathan Riley who married Mittie Ann Pearce, daughter of Gibson Pearce and Esther Nichols, lived in that same area in the mid-1850s because he's mentioned as a contiguous landowner in a deed from Gibson to S. W. Pearce in 1855. I have no idea if there's any relationship between these two Riley families. Help! Thanks. Joanne Gaudio

    3. There's only once Hunter section in the Wake Co. Heritage Book on Alsey Hunter. I can transcribe it for you if you want it. Theophilus Hunter, whom you mentioned in your second query, is mentioned only once according to the index - in a section on "Turner Ancestors of the Powells" where it is said that Mrs. Anne Turner, in asking to be named guardian of Simon and David Turner, gave Theophilus Hunter and John Turner as securities for her bond.
