Interesting tidbit- William's brother John had a daughter, Caroline who married her first cousin, Thomas , son of William Smith Hinton. If you haven't already checked on RootsWeb.com try ( I haven't been on there in forever so I don't even remember exactly how I got to the info) looking up in the Hinton lines a history by Roger Howland under the Howland, Morrison & Allied families. 3. To Mary Williams, Are you kin to the Bells in Wake Co., or further back, in Surry/Sussex Co., Va? I have found a Burwell Bell in my Freeman records and it goes like this -7 Jan 1799 Wake Co., NC Deed Bk Q/37 - Burwell Bell of Wake Co. sells for 10 sh. to John Freeman, Jr. of same place, a parcel of 10 ac on N bank Crabtree Ck. at the bridge adj. his own land, it being part of a tract gt. Godfrey Hartsfield from the State of NC. Wit: Francis Phillips, Andrew Hartsfield (The transcribed record had this as just John Freeman, but a copy of the original gave it as John, Jr.) I don't know what years you are working on, but back in Va. the Freemans and Bells were kin. I would have to look this up and supposedly per DNA, the Freemans in Va. were not mine, but this one in Wake is. John, Jr. Freeman is a brother to my ancestor Needham, both sons of John who d. 1800 Wake. 1. [NCWAKE] Hinton and Betts surname - Pollard connection?
    2. Jeremy Brock
    3. Hi, I am looking for a possible connection between my Pollard family and the Hinton family of Wake co NC. I believe I am descended from Joshua, 1800-ca 1850, and Elizabeth (Reavis), 1807- ca 1880, Pollard through their son Barzillai Betts Pollard (alternate spelling Barsilla). He was born abt 1845. He had a brother Joshua Hinton Pollard, born abt 1836. I have read that surnames of relatives were often used as middle names for children. For that matter, I am also looking for a connection to the Betts line. I have found a Barzillai Betts, ca 1800-?, that is a bondsman for more than one Pollard or related marriage. Again, I have read that often an financially established uncle or elder relative would be the bondsman. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, Jeremy Brock ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! 3. I used to think my Freemans belonged to the Granville group until the DNA was done. FamilyTree was the company doing the test. Don't forget you have to have a male carrying the surname of Freeman that is blood kin to you to do the test. There is a test for females but it doesn't work like the male test. Right now we are talking about the Y chromosome test for males only. Don't stop with the 1st. 12 markers, as that is way back in the cave days before folks started taking names. Do at least the 25 or 37 marker test - the more the better and will show closer kinship. The best buy is the 67 (think it is - it is somewhere in the 60s). My maternal grandmother was a Freeman, so it wasn't hard for me to find a male Freeman cousin. I see your Freeman line starts in the 1700s, so this may create a problem for you. Good luck. 3. I cannot place this Catherine Freeman as being kin. In fact, I have tried, but cannot connect the family of John of Wake with the Franklin Co. Freemans. I used to think the Edward that died in Franklin in 1811 (and had children in Wake Co.) was possibly a brother of John, (d. 1800) as in 1785 one Edward Freeman was a witness with John Freeman in a Wake Co. McElroy deed. Micajah McElroy was a child of the sister of Martha Linn Freeman (John's wife) and the sister's 1st. husband Archibald McElroy, Jr. After Archibald died, Sarah Lin McElroy (Martha's sister) m 2nd. Jacob Heartsfield and they lived in Franklin Co. The DNA we have from a male cousin of mine does match any other Freeman DNA that has been tested and so far my paper trail cannot exactly pinpoint John ever being in Franklin, even though there were 2 early Johns there. Between 1801 & 1807-8, my Freeman family seem to leave Wake and went to Pendleton Dist., SC. Four of the youngest, unmarried daughters are unaccounted for, though, and could have married & stayed in NC. John & Martha had 12 children. Thanks for the info.
