One LONGTIME brick wall is CHARLES A.HOOD of Wake County who married ELIZA ELLINGTON ((dau of JESSE ELLINGTON)) in 1803. She died c 1810 and he married her sister SALLY ELLINGTON. The bondsman for the first marriage was THOMAS HOOD, Jr. . MALACHI HINTON was bondsman for the second marriage. There seems to be little doubt that CHARLES A. HOOD and THOMAS HOOD, Jr. were somehow related. BUT HOW???? And was there issue to CHARLES A. HOOD"s marriages to either of the ELLINGTON sisters??? Fellow Wake Co Researchers: I have been on a quest of sorts researching my ggg grandfather Isaac Carpenter (b.1764 [Halifax] d. 1837 [Anson Co]). He was a revolutionary soldier serving from Halifax; however, after the Rev. War he moved to Orange Co in 1787 then to Wake Co in 1794 where he married Martha Allen daughter of Young Allen II. Isaac's parents have been a great mystery and source of controversy for 100 years. In his RS pension application he mentions he "served in his father's place," but never identifies him. Isaac appears in the Wake County Court records in 1795 when he starts working on roads along with others ordered by the court. Isaac does not appear on the tax rolls until 1801 where he lives between the Reeves. In researching at the NC archives, I cannot find any reference where Isaac obtains his land -- either through inheritance or purchase. His disposition of the land is well documented where he sells out in 1805-6 and moves to Anson County with his brother-in-law, Josiah Allen. Unfortunately the Wake Co deed books are incomplete as I am sure many of you know, and I am afraid that the secret might be in those missing books. Isaac lived on the South side of the Neuse in the Little Lick Creek area which is now in Durham Co. I believe in my research that Isaac was tied up with the Daniels, Reeves, Moores, Suggs, Brasfields. Isaac's siblings were William, Guilford, Sukey, Sally and Martha. Any help would be appreciated. Robert Joplin (Choplin) B. Apr 18. 1811. Married Sally Ann Winston Sept 12 1835 in Franklin Co NC. I need help in finding Robert's Parents. (All leads, dates, names & etc lead to Mordecai Joplin, son of James and Lydia Mobley Joplin. Mordecia Joplin married Nancy Lee in Wake Co NC June 20 1803. But we haven't been able to prove by any records) Mordecai Joplin died Dec 3 1814 at Norfolk VA while serving active duty in Capt. John Green Co. of Infantry. 1st Regiment NC Milita, leaving his wife and 6 small children. Nancy asked the court for help to feed these 6 small children. Grandmother Lydia in her will left Mordecai's share to his 6 children. Names of these 6 children may or maynot prove my Robert's parents but it sure would help in my search. The name is spelled many ways. Joplin, Joppling, Choplin, Chaplin, etc and found in Franklin. Yadkin and Wake Counties in NC. Please help ,it would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks Marilyn

Does anyone have the list of 16 families that in 1771 (1769 in some versions) traveled with Col./Gen. James and Charlotte Reeves Robertson from Wake Co. (or what became Wake) to the Watauga settlements and Fincastle Co., VA? I am descended from James Maulding, a 1778 tax assessor of Washington Co., NC (now TN), who was in Fincastle/Watauga by 1772 and came from Wake/Chatham Cos., NC. Thanks, Randy McConnell

Hello, I am new to this list and really hoping that someone can help me with a very lost ancestor. Benjamin Watkins b. abt. 1820 is my ggg grandfather. He shows up in the 1850 New Hanover County census records. I have found a ref. that he is listed in the 1860 Census for Wake co on page 203. I have the 1850 records but only have an index for 1860. If someone has the 1860 could you possible look up this Benjamin and let me know what is listed for him? I have not found him listed in any cemetery records or military records. I do not believe that he left the state. His grandchildren all end up being back in New Hanover at some time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ashley
