Hi List, The Wake Co., NC GenWeb has all the info for courts, archives, and libraries at their site http://www.rtpnet.org/~wcgs/wakegenweb.html Wake Co., NC GenWeb This information includes hours, directions, addresses, phone numbers, and web site addresses. This was a great help to me when I recently visited Raleigh! Good luck, Karen Roberts DeLand, FL
To Janis and others that might be needing this: warning, the ph # may have changed since this was published in the Handy Book for Genealogists The Wake Co. Courthouse address is: 336 Fayetteville Mall Raleigh, NC 27602 ph. # 919-856-6000 If this is not correct, will someone please let me know, so I can change my facts file? Hi Everyone, You can go to Switchboard.com and get addresses and telephone numbers for just about anything you need. Sometimes you can get driving directions too (in the case of a cemetery etc). Hope this helps. Just input the name of the item you need, then the city and state where located and if there is a listing, it will come up. Shelly Ancestors Wanted. Apply Within.
This is for all those asking about the 1790 census for Wake Co. There is a census for Wake and the rest of NC for 1790. In fact, there are two census schedules. One is the original and the other is a printed census, taken from the original, on microfilm. The series # for the microfilm of these Federal schedules are: Original series - M637, N.C. is roll # 7 Printed series - T498, N.C. is roll # 2 (along with New York and Pennsylvania) The printed schedule was published by the Bureau of Census in 1907-08. And, at the end of roll 3 (RI, SC, VT & VA) there is the 1840 Census of Pensioners for the Rev. or Military Services. There is no census for Wake Co., NC for the years 1810 and 1820. There are tax lists for 1813 and 1816, that can be used to supplement the lack of these. Hope this answers the questions? Happy Hunting! Thanks. Don't fall into the trap of assuming this was faithfully followed all the time. Don't assume that this was followed even most of the time. I can't think of any lines of mine, almost all of which are from North Carolina, in which this was faithfully followed. People named their kids what they wanted to name them, unless one of the older generation leaned on them. (I've had *that* happen in my immediate family.) "Don't assume" is a prudent guide in genealogy. Can someone tell me if there was a 1790 Wake Co. NC census. I can't seem to find one. Wanda

Can anyone tell me the "system" used to name children, i.e. the first daughter after the wife's mother, the second daughter after the father's mother, etc. I do know the English and Irish had different systems, but do not know the proper sequence for either. Thanks. J. Nolan Grady

Dear List and especially Ron Bell, Thank you so much for the List of Medlin marriages for through that I found a person for whom I have been looking. There is a marriage listed for James Lyles and Ann Medlin (Dec. 28, 1858). I have been looking for a James Liles (m: Anne Medlin) in Wake County. Can anyone tell me if James's parents were Gideon and Matilda Liles (Lyles)? If not, who were his parents? Again, thank all of you for your interest and help. Donna
One of these days, I swear I am, I am going to the county court house in Raleigh. I saw a book that told all the treasures hiding in various offices in Wake and I want to read some of them. Can someone give me the days and hours the court house is open? Any Saturdays, at all? Shirley
This is a little off the subject of genealogy, however I received this message from another listserver I belong to for Gadsden County, FL. This will only take a couple minutes of your time and it will help these kids with their class project - so, if you will, please reply to them. Thanks! Debbie Bowman Subj: Class project Hello! We are in Grade 5 at Bill Arp Elementary School in Douglasville, GA which is about 20 minutes west of Atlanta, GA USA. We have decided to map an email project.
