    1. Re: Hunters and Perrys
    2. Frank and Lois Richardson
    3. I found some Perrys on the net married to daughters of this Hunter, and many have confirmed the Hunter-Perry links. If you will just put Isaac Hunter in your search engine, I think that it will come up. I will try to post the entire Will and my questions, but do not know if the L- pages can print it all. He owned a tavern, listed as historical. It seems that I have records of Elizabeth, Elizabeth Joan, Joan, Jean, and Jane. If you can get this straight, please let me know. Am trying to determine who was the mother of the traditional seven Perry sons who moved to NC, being upset with their father, who had married their aunt -- a Hunter, as his second wife. Which Phllip? Some say the son of the 1st Phillip Perry in this country; others say the third Phillip Perry. Also, please read the pages by Barbara Beall (Twigs of Inman - Spence) and Leila Mayberry (Granny Peach's Page). "Hunter, Isaac, Will Lois, I located the following information on Phillip Perry and Jean Hunter in one of my Perry files, it has the transcribed will of Isaac Hunter. Apparently Jean Hunter was not the mother of the 7 Brothers. Steve Phillip Perry died in Perquimans County, NC in 1751, leaving a will. Named in his will, sons: Jesse, & Phillip, brothers John, Joseph & Jacob. He left to son Jesse "land on Little River" and to Phillip "plantation whereon I now live." Daughters: Sarah, Mary, Rachel, Jude, Elizabeth, and Miriam. Jacob (son of Jacob) is made Executor. Witnessed by Benjamin and Elizabeth Perry. Jean Hunter, daughter of Isaac Hunter of Chowan County, NC, was apparently the second wife of Phillip Perry and the mother of those (WHICH PHILLIP/ BORN/DIED WHEN? WHERE? children named in his will. A copy of Isaac Hunter's will follows: In the Name of God Amen. I, Isaac Hunter, of Chowan County, Being of perfect Memory and minde and Calling to minde the Uncertainty of this Transitory Life, Do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament, in manner and forme following, first, I Bequeath my Soul to almight God; and my Body to the Earth to be Buried at the Discretion of my Execut'r, hereafter named; and as for my worldly Estate which it hath pleased God to Bestow upon me, I Give and Dispose of as followeth, Vizt: First, my will and Desire is, that all my Just Debts be Trewly paid and Discharged by my Execr. 1. Willis Privett
    2. Ron Bell
    3. I had posted marriages for the name Privett and I was at the library and found this in a book called Tennessee Divorces 1797-1858 Taken from 750 legislative Petitions and Acts by Gale W. Bamman,C.G. and Debbie W. Spero Privett, Willis 5 November 1827 Smith Co. TN Willis Privett was married in December 1824 in Wake County, NC to Delila Perry. they lived together happily for two years. At the end of two years and some before, she began asking him to move to the Western Country, suggesting that her mother had moved to Virginia, that her brother had moved to TN., and that since they were poor, by moving they might better themselves. Last Feb. [1827] they arrived in Smith Co. TN. in the same neighborhood as her brother, Burrell Perry, and his family. They lived with Burrel but Willis soon found his brother-in-law to be devoted to an idle man named John Boze. Delila ran off with Boze and lives with him.Petition includes signatures of 5 neighbors who say they have known Willis Privett 9 or 10 months. Hope this helps someone researching names Privett and Perry Judy

    1. Search of Old Newspapers
    2. I recently posted a request for information about searching old newspapers which might have covered a possible ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh at the October 17, 1883 re-interment of the bodies of Confederate soldiers which had been retrieved from a mass grave in Arlington. Thanks to the suggestions and a little help, I am pleased to note that not only did such a ceremony take place, but it was covered in articles in the Farmer and Mechanic weekly and in The State Chronicle, which I now have or have made arrangements to obtain. I understand that the Olivia Rainey Local History Library has microfilmed copies of The Raleigh Register for the period 1790 - 1886. If anyone is making a regularly scheduled visit to this library and would be willing to check the Raleigh Register records for an article covering this re-interment, I would gladly pay for copying and postage. Thanks, Steve Dixon

    1. Mills Family Cemetery: Wake Co., NC.
    2. William A. Mills
    3. I received an article (31 Dec. 1999) from the Raleigh News & Observer today, which told about the City of Cary's plans concerning the Mills Family Cemetery and 100 acres of the Mills Family Homestead. Cary has their sites on about 3 possible locations for a waste treatment plant. The only way that I know to help to change the minds of those in charge of deciding on using my family's cemetery, is to rally the various lineage organizations in support of leaving this historic cemetery alone. These would include: DAR, SAR, SCV, UDC, Daughters of 1812, among others. Of the 62 known graves, there are at least 11 military veterans buried at the cemetery. Naaman Mills (1757-1832) was a Rev. War veteran. His son, Britain Mills (1789-1856) served in the War of 1812. There are at least 7 Confederate veterans buried there, and 2 WWII vets. The cemetery was established in 1839, and now encompasses a portion of land which is 125 X 125 feet. The Mills Family is not considered to be an abandoned cemetery, in any way. There were burials there up until 1988. There has been a burial there in every decade since the 1830s. Is there anyone on this list who may have some ideas or suggestions about the NC cemetery laws, and how to go about protecting a cemetery that is in jeopardy from a proposed waste treatment plant?
