    1. Robertson Family
    2. Dear MeiToi, I have the ancestor, Amelia Robertson, who married Solomon Terrell. She was born 5 Feb. 1755 in North Carolina. She married 29 Sept. 1778 in Wake County, NC, and died 20 August 1798. These dates and names are entered in the Bible of Solomon Terrell. Now here is the problem. I can not find a solution to it. A gentleman has entered the information in the Ancestral File that Amelia's maiden name was Spain, and that her first husband was Richard Robertson. He states her first two children were Polly Baugh Robertson and Elizabeth Robertson. I contacted the gentleman but could not get any references or reasons to back up his material. He had the information on Solomon's ancestry all wrong in places. As you know, tracing our women ancestors can be very difficult. If anyone can help me with my Amelia, I would truly be grateful! I would like to know if I have a Robertson or a Spain line. Betty

They had atleast four children together between 1903 and 1913. Lecia died 11 June 1931 and is buried in Rocky Mount, Nash County, North Carolina. I have no information on Lemmie. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. [NCWAKE-L] Eliza Gill
    2. Joseph E. and Elizabeth Browne
    3. I am trying to find the parents of Eliza Ann Gill, my grgrgrandmother. She was born in Wake Forest in 1830 and died 1905. She married in 1849 William Bolling Dunn. The 1850 census doesn't help because she married in 1849, so she would no longer live with her parents. I did find the marriage of Ezra Gill and Aley Davis, Feb. 25, 1825. The dates are right for them to have had a daughter born in 1830. Does anyone have these folks and their children? Or does anyone have a suggestion as to where to find out who were the parents of Eliza Ann were? There is also a David and Susan Gill listed in the 1850 census. David is 51 years old. This is another possibility. Anyone know these people? Beth Browne

    3. Gary, If you check out any of the sites that sell genealogical books, these notices from the Raleigh Register and the NC State Gazette have been put into a set of two books. Yes the paper was published that early, as the books cover 1799-1825 in the first one, and 1826-1845 in the second one. The paper was published weekly and was first named 'The Raleigh Register and NC Weekly Advertiser'. They aren't indexed, but each year is listed seperately and is alphabetical order sorted by groom's surname. Both books are excellent sources for info on marriages and deaths during the time they cover. 3. Hi List, I should be getting the microfilm for the early years of the "Raleigh Register" any day now. I plan on extracting and posting the obit, marriage and birth data from them, on the Chatham Co., page. So, keep checking. I will let the this list know when I do it. In the meantime, I already have some of the early newspapers posted on the page. I haven't had time to do anything lately and until my main computer is up and running again, hopefully in the next week, I won't be putting anything up. Just hang in there. 3. There is a one line death notice for Holloway Kee in a Memphis paper that seems to indicate that it original appeared in the Raleigh Register. The date of the Memphis paper was Aug 9, 1855 with the death listed as July 18, 1855. And now for a few questions: Was the Raleigh Register in fact published then and was it daily, weekly or etc.? Has it been microfilmed? Does anyone know of a way to get a copy by interlibrary loan or something? By chance has the death notices for this time period been index and would someone be so kind as to check it for me? Even better, if someone is actually researching the paper in this time period would be a copy of the obit if it is there. Glad to pay any expenses. I am one of a group of Kee's researching the family. Our information is mainly after their move to Tennessee around 1810 or a little before. I am more than a little surprised to find the reference so late in Wake Co. Perhaps a sister to Holloway stayed in Wake Co. I would be very much interested in corresponding with anyone who has addition information or is interested in the Kee/Key family. Gary In the outback of West Tenn.

    2. Hello, I wrote to the Tennessee Archives in Raleigh and requested a photocopy of the Raleigh Register newspaper referenced in a book in my local library. The notice of the marriage of my ancestors appears NO WHERE else except in the newspaper. Those wonderful librarians sent me a photocopy of the whole page where my information was located. Still, it was great to have the photocopy of the announcement. Betty Surnames in Wake County, NC: TERRELL, JEFFRIES, ROBERTSON, SPAIN

    1. ORR family
    2. nancy erb
    3. Hello everyone! I am new to this list and hope I can connect with some Wake County ORR FAMILY researchers. My direct line goes as far back as Alexander ORR, per LDS records born in 1761, and his wife Martha. I believe our Alexander ORR is one of the three ORR's who traveled to Kentucky and settled in the Christian and Caldwell Co of Kentucky. Alexander ORR, Robert ORR and William ORR are found as early as 1799 on the Christian Co KY tax lists. Where did these ORR families come from? Records indicate that the marriage of Alexander ORR's daughter Elizabeth ORR to John LAUGHLIN occurred in SC. Oral family history states that our ancestors were 'cousins' to Gov James L ORR of SC (who I understand descends from Robert ORR of Wake Co). Alexander's son Hugh ORR was born in North Carolina according to census record of his son William ORR. Another ORR researcher in Mecklenburg Co NC suggested that the Robert ORR family of Wake Co NC would be a possibility, as she was certain we did not belong to her ORR's. Please contact me if anyone can clarify this Wake Co NC ORR family. I would sincerely appreciate any responses with information or suggestions. Sincerely, Nancy Orr-Erb

    3. Hi Wanda, The deeds have been indexed and are microfilm. You may buy a film from the NC archives. They are $12.00 a roll. I can't tell you the film numbers. You probably would be better off and it would be faster, just to call the archives as ask how many rolls would cover the time period you want and they could give you the film number/s to order at the same time. Their ph. # is: (919) 733-3952. I have some of the indices. There are grantor and grantee and they are in alphabetical order by surname. The ones I have are from CA - CZ. There may be a printed index to the deeds also. Does anyone else in the list know?
