I am interested in the Clarks of Wake County and particularly Leonard Clark who I found in Wake County on the 1784 Wake County Tithe List. Leonard was born about 1754. He served in the Revolutionary War and received a pension for injuries suffered during the War. He made his home in Pittsylvania County, VA from 1798 until his death in 1830. He married twice. I have been unable to find out where his first marriage took place but it was most probably in NC either in Wake or Granville County. His second marriage took place in Pittsylvania County in 1798.
If someone on the list has access to the 1860 & 1870 census for Wake County and would do a lookup, please contact me. Thanks, Mike Simmons

Are there any BRANNAN researchers on this list? I am descended from Thomas Brannan of Johnston Co, but he lived near the Wake Co line. Some of his family members lived in Wake Co. I would be interested in corresponding with any of you Brannan researchers. Sue Brannan Plaster
B. J. Hi, my name is Patricia Cox, and my father C. R. (A134CR) forwarded this email on to me. Yes, our Mary A. Walton moved with her husband Daniel Cox and family from Wake Cty., NC, to Phillips Cty., Arkansas, then some place in Mississippi (which is unknown at this point in time) and then to Tuscaloosa, AL where she is buried with Robert (her son) and several of his children in the Williamson Cemetery in Northport, AL (just across the river from Tuscaloosa). Apparently several Cox and Walton families moved from NC to Tuscaloosa within a few years of each other. So far I have been unable to identify who Mary's father is (suspect it may be Samuel because of the 1830 Federal census in Wake Cty., NC) or the names of any siblings. Federal census records on Mary show her being born in both South Carolina and North Carolina, but have not been able to validate either one yet. Her DOB is 8 March 1816. David S. Walton, also moved from Wake Cty., NC to Tuscaloosa area, and their ages could make them siblings, but there again, can not validate this. Just speculation on my part. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. I would love to get a handle on these Walton's. Both Mary and Daniel are my brick walls at this time. Always searching, Pat
Hi All, I've put a couple of new links on the Chatham page. I've been working on getting maps up but, still don't have good ones for waterways. I do have some new maps though and you might get something out of them. Sue A. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/chatham.htm

Well, darn Joe, all this time, I thought they were trying to help us! NOT!! (Especially when the dern film is so bad and the 'sensus taykr cudnt spel) 8-} And you have to remember too, that the 1880 Soundex was done specifically to test the ages of folks applying for social security, but look how much it helped us, genealogy minded folk. So, maybe we won't be too disappointed in the 1930 census when it comes out. Anything is better than nothing, RIGHT? I know that it is a big disappointment, but no census was every designed to further Genealogy interests. Governments are interested in MONEY. Look at the 1790 - 1840 census. They were able apportion the House of Representatives and it told them how many men were old enough for military service. Nowdays they are interested in where to spend the money they collect in taxes. Hi List, Well, my daughter called today, wanting to know what to put down as her "ethnic background" There were so many choices that she didn't know what to do (something like 10 variations). Then she said they were so nosy, asking about how many minutes/hours that they took to drive to work, what type of work, what their interests were, etc., that she was surprised they didn't ask how many times a week they had sex! SO.......,what there is, is two different census forms (like last time) and only a certain percentage of the families get this long form. I think it's too bad too. So, only a very minor portion of the population will have information on the census that will be of use to our future generations as far as genealogy goes... BOOOOO !! Kind of like there not being a miracode/soundex for all the states for 1910 !!! Now, you may all write your government officials and complain about this too. <VBG> Sue [email protected] wrote: > > No, that's the form. I was surprised too. > > Shelly > > Ancestors Wanted. I thought the same thing. Any future generations will find this census all but useless as far as genealogy is concerned. What a disappointment. Hello I just recieved my census 2000 and I was very disappointed. Why so little information ? I thought the longer we filled the census out the more information we would be asked. No parents names, no grandparents names ??? No asking where the family first came from.? They didn't even ask where we were born. Am I missing part of this census.? Sally
Hello All, At least our ancesters will know if we had indoor plumbing or not. It is obvious that the designers of this form are not interested in genealogy. It is a big disappointment. Pat
No, that's the form. I was surprised too. Shelly Ancestors Wanted. Apply Within.

I am searching for the parents and siblings of Josiah L. Lindsey born April 5, 1805 NC. His obituary is as follows: Died at his home near Elmo, TX on August 18, 1880, Deacon Josiah Lindsey in the eighty-fifth year of his age. Brother Lindsey was born near Raleigh, NC. When quite young his parents moved to Lauderdale Co. AL where he experienced a hope in Christ in early life, and in August 1823 he joined the Old School Baptists at Mill Creek Church. On the 26th of November following, he was married to Miss Henrietta "Ritty" Harder, who was at that time a member of the same church with him,.........Brother Lindsey moved to Itawamba Co. MS, 1837, he went into the constitution of a church there and was ordained deacon. In the year 1869, he with his entire family of children and grand- children moved to Kaufman Co. TX and settled on the place where he died....." What at that time was considered "near Raleigh NC"? That leaves a very wide berth doesn't it. Has anyone in the research happened on information that might help determine who Josiah's parents and siblings might be. Any thoughts?? As stated in the obit, Josiah lived in Lauderdale Co. AL and Itawamba Co. MS before moving to Kaufman Co. TX. In both AL and MS there were SC Lindsey's living in the general area. This leads one to believe that there is a possible connection. Sorry for the long post. If anyone has ideas, please let me know. Sincerely, Cynthia Chandler East Peoria, IL
I'm trying to find the parents of a James K. and a John E. MATHIS/MATTHEWS. James was born in NC in 1820. His father may be Richard MATHIS/MATTHEWS. James K. married the daughter of Andrew McDonough of Raleigh, NC. Andrew moved to Bledsoe County, TN about 1806. Does anyone know anything about the Mathis/Matthews of Wake County before 1830? Thanks, Georgia Mathis Cummons Jacksonville, FL [email protected]
