    1. New link and update on old.
    2. Sue
    3. Hi everyone. Me again with bits for those of you with Orange/Chatham/Guilford/Alamance,etc., roots. I've put up a new link to the Chatham Co., page. It is the bastardy bonds extracted from the county court of pleas and quarter sessions. These are earlier than the published ones done by the Camins. http://rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/bastardy.htm Also, I have found quite a few more orphans records after I got a larger magnifying glass and a filter for the microfilm reader screen. So, there are about 20 - 25 more names, now. So, take a look.. hope you find something.. Sue Ashby, CC, Chatham Co,NC http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/chatham.htm

    1. Orphan Records of Chatham Co.
    2. Sue
    3. Hello list. This is my update post. To those of you that aren't aware already, I've completed the orphan records (apprentice/indenture bonds) for Chatham Co., from 1774 to 1800. At least, as far as possible with the film that I have. Some of it is unreadable and until I can get to the archives and see the original, this will have to do. I feel that I have extracted at least 95%, however. My spell checker hasn't worked well, because of the old spelling and abbreviations so, please excuse the probable errors in words. The surnames are correct to the best of my ability to read the film.. This has many names from the surrounding counties of Chatham. http://rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/orphan.htm Happy Hunting.. 1. Records in the Archives
    2. Melissa Kitchens
    3. To Betty Owens: I have not yet requested any records from the Archives, but I did get some help from the Wake County Genealogy Society. For a fee of $10, and some specific information I had asked for, they provided me with copies of my ancestor's will, estate inventory, land records, etc. You can e-mail them with your request and they will give you instructions as to what they need and what they can help you with. I found them very accommodating. I think you can find information on contacting them at the Wake Co. NC U.S. GENWEB site. Melissa Kitchens Oxford MS

    3. Doing genealogy is a little like playing the lottery? Sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. You may have to look into census records and get the kids names that way. You may have to look through indexes in court houses to stumble across them. The records only contain the information that was given at the time the records was made. There is no good answer for your question. Some advise though don't get discourage and don't give up. Happy Hunting, Pam > Does anyone know just what record I should ask for, to find the names of the > children in orphans records or guardian records, and just what it is called in > North Carolina? 3. Hello List, Just a note to tell, those of you that have connections in Chatham Co. that, I've abstracted all the orphan indentures and guardian bonds from 1774 to 1779 for Chatham. Hopefully you will find a missing ancestor in these records. I will be doing more as time allows. The URL for the Orphans Records is: http://rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/orphan.htm The URL for the county page is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/chatham.htm Success in your search!! Sue

    1. Raleigh Archives
    2. Hi Folks, I need help with a problem I am having with the Archives in Raleigh. I sent in my first $8.00 to search records for an estate record. I bought the record for $14.00. It did not contain the names of the heirs (Children), although mention was made of them as Orphans. So I sent another $8.00 to search for a Guardian's record for the children. They sent back that they had found the original estate record, please send $14.00...........that I had just purchased. Everytime I ask them something, it costs $8.00. Does anyone know just what record I should ask for, to find the names of the children in orphans records or guardian records, and just what it is called in North Carolina? I would like my next $8.00 to ask the correct question! Betty Owens Searching for Terrells, Spains, and Jeffreys in North Carolina

My guess is 1840 though because she had a child by 1855. She may be going by Louisa but not sure. Her parents are James York married to Regina Campbell. Thank you. Nancy [email protected]
