My family names include: Horton, Broadwell, Lee, Rhodes, Ferrell, Etheridge, Bunch, and Bell. I am particularly interested in information on Elizabeth Bell who was living in the Little River District at the time of the 1850 Census. Her children were Lucy, Sarah, and Rufus. I believe that Lucy later married Patrick Dowd Massey and that Elizabeth moved to Nash County. By 1860, Elizabeth was living with her daughter, Sarah Bell Lewis, and son, Rufus there. Any information about this family is of interest. I'm also glad to share infomration on my other lines. Patti Hinton French [email protected]

Hi, A "white poll" is a count of the white male citizens over the age of 16 or 18 or 21 (depending on the time and the state taken) I believe that is was 18 in N.C. at that time period but, don't quote me, I would have to check on it. So, if you have 2 white polls you have two men of legal age in that household. If you track back on the tax lists you can get a good idea of when the men in you ancestors' family came of age. If you compare the tax lists to the census lists of pre-1850 (where all you have are age groups, you can narrow birth years down some. Hope this helps. sUE [email protected] wrote: > > Wake and surrounding counties: CLEMENTS, CLEMONS, CLEMMONS, SHIPP, DANIEL, > MANGUM > > Question re: the 1830 and 1840 Tax Lists--what is the "number of white > polls"? > > JJohnson > Kingwood TX > > ==== NCWAKE Mailing List ====
