Hello list, I'd sent this to the Cumberland list, but since they later ended up in Wake County I thought I'd send it along to this list as well. These County lines are often confusing. Jesse Jones was originally of Johnston County. Any assistance with this HOCKADAY and JONES questions would be greatly appreciated ! I'm searching for my HOCKADAY and JONES ancestors. Alvin JONES married Elizabeth HOCKADAY in Cumberland County about 1812. They had a daughter, Delphia JONES b. 5 May 1813 in Cumberland, NC, died 23 Apr 1850 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Delphia JONES married 9 Apr 1830 William STEWART/STUART, b. 24 Oct 1800, Fayetteville, Cumberland Co. North Carolina, William died 13 Oct 1891 in Moab,Grand Co., Utah. William and Delphia had a daughter, China Anne STEWART, b. 3 Oct 1845 in Alfoma, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. William STEWART was the son of eorge STEWART and Rebecca UTLEY I know my STEWART line from William back. I'm rsearching Elizabeth HOCKADAY, who were her parents ?, I have only one child for Alvin and Elizabeth, Delphia. Elizabeth may be the same Elizabeth who later married Wyatt CANNADY after the death of Alvin JONES after 1820, Wyatt and Elizabeth' children were all born after 1824 Elizabeth may be the daughter of William HOCKADAY and Ann POWELL I believe Alvin JONES was the son of Jesse JONES and Winifred SPEIGHT of Johnston Co, NC. They too had a daughter, Delphia, sister of Alvin ?. I believe Alvin and Elizabeth named their daughter Delphia after her ? I found Alvin JONES in the Cumberland Co. Census of 1820 as well as my STEWART/STUART families Jesse JONES was the brother of Capt. Etheldred JONES Thanks for any assistance Marty Graybill ================================================= http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/r/a/Marty-Graybill/index.html ================================================= If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things. -- Rene Descartes =================================================
I am searching for information on the wife, parents and siblings of James Perry of Wake County. James died about 1837 (will dated August 21, 1837). His children were: 1) James Perry, 2) Bennet Perry, Sr. m Nancy Cooley, 3) Crofford Perry, 4) Elizabeth Perry, 5) Nancy Perry m Barham, 6) Mary Perry m Daniel Redding, 7) John Perry m Nancy Baker, 8) Ephraim Perry m Agnes Gay, 9) Robert S. Perry m Frances Richards. John and Robert Perry married cousins both of whom were granddaughters of John Perry of Franklin County. John Perry of Franklin County was one of the seven Perry brothers according to "tradition". Any help on James Perry of Wake County would be most appreciated. Thanks. Glen Perry
Hi Tony, There was an Elizabeth PARKER (not Barker) who was married to a Baucom in 1806, when her father's will was probated. Also, a James Bawcom/Baucom, etc. who was married to a Sarah Rogers, daughter of Isham Rogers, whose will was probated in Nov. of 1804. The will also mentions Willie Baucom and James Baucom Jr. who may be the sons of James and Sarah. The Baucoms may have been related to the Penny family, also. Because they are mentioned several times in the estate sales of James Penny. I am still trying to find out who the father of Harriet Baucom was. She married Ransom Busbee in 1825 in Wake Co. Saw this site posted here about a week ago. I have looked at it before and it one of the best with a lot of research. On revisiting it I noticed that the family of the man posted a note that he passed away June 9, 2000. The first has other name linked to SANDERS. http://www.familyhistoryhouse.com/ http://www.familyhistoryhouse.com/Research/research%20m-s/sanders/sanders.htm This website has a few different Sanders. Does anyone have any information on Lucy Sparks who left a will in Wake Co 1823 naming Charity Smith, wife of Alexander Smith, and Charity's oldest daughter Cinderella Woodward, and Winifred Jones, wife of Etheldred Jones? (not Capt Etheldred Jones, but son of William Jones d 1800 and wife Mary) Charity Smith and Winifred Jones were both Woodwards before their marriages, both daughters of Pleasants Woodward and Winifred Utley. So far, I have found no records explaining Lucy Sparks' interest in the Woodwards. Is anyone researching the Sparks who might be able to explain this? Thanks! Cookie

Hi, Am stuck on Briant (or Bryant) Etheridge (Ethridge/Ethrage/Etherage). He was born either 1790 or 1800 in Wake County, N.C. December 31, 1818 he got a marriage license and his intended bride's name on the license was spelled Lucy Grenn. However, I have seen her name also spelled Glenn/Glen. Their children include: His children include: Parmelia b. 1823; Jeremiah Etheridge b. September 20, 1827; Harriet b. 1834; William b. 1835; J.H.B. b. 1840; Elizabeth b. 1841; James Henry Harrison Ethridge b. March 20, 1844; Mary b. 1846; Lucinda b. 1856; Mary b. 1860; John b. 1868. I am not certain they were really all his children or if perhaps he had grand-children living with him. Nor do I know how many times he married although I think he had at least 2 wives and I think his second wife's name was Mary Lindsay. Lucy disappears between the 1850 and 1870 Census and I have not found Briant yet in the 1860 census, so I am assuming she must have died, and he must have married again. In the 1850 census, Lucy's age is given as 45, making her 13 in 1818. My line is:Barbara Ann Ethridge, b. November 25, 1956, d. of Charles Edward Ethridge, b. March 15, 1931, s. of James Alfred Ethridge, b. August 10, 1911, s. of James Henry Ethridge, b. November 8, 1867, s. of James Henry Harrison Ethridge, b. March 20, 1844, s. of Briant Etheridge. I would apprectiate any information and am willing to share what I have. Thanks! Barbara Blake
