    1. [NCUNION-L] Re: NCUNION-D Digest V99 #48:Margaret McNeely Godfrey-Broom
    2. Anne, This story gets better with the tellin'. And I don't think I have all the info to straighten it out here. Together, we have more information than we do separately. I don't have the 1870 Census info. Calvin Broom's first wife was Susan Godfrey (Sister of Copeland, John James, Eliza, and Henderson Godfrey). Margaret McNeely's first husband was Copeland, Susan's brother. Then, on the deaths of Susan and Copeland, Margaret and Calvin couldn't stand it any longer, so they got married. And they had seven kids: Cecil R., Hugh, Bunyan Cloyd, Wheeler, Mag, Carrie, and Della. That's a few more than you have listed. I think Cecil was the youngest, because he was living with them in the 1900 Census. He was 16 and Calvin and Margaret were 69 and 59 respectively. Your Mitty Broom must be the Martha "Mattie" Broom. I have her as Susan and Calvin's daughter, Not Margaret's daughter. That's how the book reads. Martha married George Godfrey of My line (James A. Godfrey's GrGrandson). Eliza, James and John are a mystery. But they are common given names in the line. Are you throughly confused? Keep the queries coming, Phil Brown PBrown2438@aol.com
