I'm researching the Holdens of Union Co. and wondered if anyone was familiar with this family. I have a copy of the petition Sarah Holden filed against the heirs of Samuel Holden (d. 6 May 1848) in order to receive her share of his estate. Sarah was Samuel's widow and was at least his second and possibly his third wife. Holden heirs mentioned in this petition were: Eliza (heir of Alexander Holden), Henry, Frederick, Lily, Lizzy (m. Samuel Moser), Holly (m. William Ferrell/Fernall), Solomon, Nancy, Emeline, Rachel, Sampson, Sally (m. Jacob Earl Bailey), Rebecca and Polly. Eliza was a grandaughter and the rest were children of Samuel. At the time of his death, Samuel owned property "adjoining the lands of Hiram Broom, William Byrum, Phillip Richardson, Jacob Starns and others." A William and Jacob Broom also witnessed the will of Samuel's father (Frederick Holden) in 1814 so the Holden/Broom association spanned quite a few years. Anyone researching this Holden family of Union Co. or has anyone tracking the other names mentioned run across any Holdens in their search? Philip R. Shipp Dallas, TX
