    1. [NCUNION] War Between the States
    2. Chris Reeder
    3. I disagree with the Title... Should be War Between the States, but someone out there may like to take a look. Chris Reeder Florence, SC Cornell University has put the ENTIRE "War of the Rebellion" on the internet!!! Over 60 volumes!!! It includes scanned images of reports, correspondence, seizures of Southern property, etc. sent to the War Dept. during the Civil War. It includes both Union and Confederate accounts. It is in chronological order but there is no online index. Many libraries have the index. Find the volume and page number for your subject in the index at the library. Go to this website http://moa.cit.cornell.edu/MOA/MOA-JOURNALS2/WARO.html

    3. Keep up the good work, Chris. I, too, find it amazing but it seems that my wife, who is a direct descendent of the Wolf/ Wolfe & Clark, Morrison & Alexander families of Meck, Cabarrus & , later, Union is related or , at least, "shirttail " related to almost eveyone in those counties, Again, keep it up... 3. I appreciate your issuing an apology. I enjoy the list and the correspondence back and forth among the members. I have enjoyed your input into the family lines and issues as well as Chris's. I have met Chris on several occasions and find that he is dedicated to correctness of his sources. Young people are certainly what geneaology needs more of. My son started it when he was in middle school -- years before I did, but I can certainly check and verify his data. Youth does not mean that sources have not been properly cited. Most all of us who have lived in Union County all our lives as did our fathers, grandfathers, greatgrandfathers, etc. find that we are kin to about every other line that has also been hear since 1842. It may not be through a direct line, but it's there none the less. It's fun to be kin to so many others, but can be confusing at time. Let's all forgive and forget and keep up the wonderful exchange that we have. Randy does a great job as our coordinator. We owe him and all members a great thanks. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, October 06, 1999 12:13 PM Subject: Re: [NCUNION] Williams Family >To the List and the Listowner of this page: > I owe you an apology for publishing my recent message on the list. 3. Sure.. It was a book I got from the Heritage room in Monroe, NC. I will get the name for you when I get home... I will try to remember when I get home. ;-) In the book, it also had my Jacob K. Long the son of Henry Long. I had always thought that he was the son of Henry's son Jacob G. Long b: 1813. I will have to do some digging. Hoped this helped. If you have not heard from me with a reply in a few days... please remind me again. Which Long line are you from? 2. chris reeder my "long" line goes to henry e long b.1737 d. 1805 m. anna catherine pence b. 1739 d. abt 1820 both died in meck co. and wills are filed there. i have seen that book or article in the heritage room that has henry e long (above) as the son of a william long out of rowan co., but most researchers i have spoken with have henry e long's father as henry long, sr who married barbara pence. i would like to find out which one is correct? jerald b long charlotte, nc

    1. RE: [NCUNION] Williams Family
    2. Chris Reeder
    3. Dear Ms. Sendgikoski, I am writing in reply to your letter earlier today to my husband, Chris Reeder. I wish to express my understanding of your letter and to say that while you may not have meant to, you did most certainly offend. First of all you are right, Chris is a young man, not quite 24 years of age, and also is very trusting. However, I do not feel that either one of these characteristics calls for the kind of public reprimand that you so freely provided. He got into researching genealogy about two years ago and finds it a great source of inspiration and entertainment. He loves to research his family and finds his research a great way to meet people, as well as discover his heritage. Chris is the kind of selfless, honest, non-enterprising person that freeling gives any information he finds to others who may be looking for the same types of things. Because he is such a man of integrity, he does not think about the fact that not everyone in the world is not made of the same moral fiber as he, and therefore does not assume that he may be mislead in anyway by his sources. I, like you, am a more skeptical person who is always trying to make sure that I am not being taken advantage of in any aspect of my career, hobbies, or personal life for that matter. Understanding your point, I still have to say that Chris would in no way, willingly misinform any of his "cousins", as he calls you all, with botched information. If you were simply trying to warn him of the dangers of being too trusting, why did you choose to reprimand him publicly, via the Union County mailing list? This is what I have a bit of a problem understanding. Chris was not altogether sure what you meant by your letter, and that is why he asked me to read it and try to help him understand your point. You have, while maybe not deliberately, taken something that is so often a source of joy for him and used it to hurt his feelings. That is why I decided to respond to your letter, and why I decided to make my response public, also using the mailing list. You, my dear lady, and the rest of the world to understand what a compassionate, innocent, truthful, and yes even TRUSTING, man of integrity my husband is. If you did, you would never have found it necessary to get on your "soap box". Rest assured that the two of us will be combing through all of his information in the next couple of weeks, and that all of his information will be DOCUMENTED before appearing on the web. By the way, the Williams family that he believes he is linked to is Rev. Joseph Williams and possibly John and Hattie Hough Williams from Chesterfeild Co.,SC. One final comment before I go. Yes, it may seem that Chris is related to everyone in Union County, but in his eyes we are all related. We are all members of the human race, and each of us deserves to be treated with respect, dignity and love for fellow man. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to voice my opinion. I hope I have shed some light on the matter for you, and that I have in no way offended you by this correspondence. Thank-you also to the Union County mailing list for allowing me to publicly respond to something that in no way should have ever been made public. Sincerely, Susanne H. Reeder -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, October 04, 1999 4:40 PM To: Chris Reeder Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NCUNION] Williams Family Chris, What WILLIAMS are you related to? It seems you are related to everyone in Union County, and I am wondering if you have thoroughly checked out your sources and documented all of these folks. Just receiving info from whomever, does not mean the material you have is proven. If you have not proven all the many ancestral lines that you have, you are doing yourself, your ancestors, and all other genealogical researchers, past, present, and future a huge disservice. I have spent over four years researching just one name, that of my family. I am preparing to publish a book and I would never think of authoring something that I had not thoroughly researched and documented, without stating that it, meaning research that I had done, but could not be proven. I sincerely hope that you can give sources for all the information you have published on the Internet. If not, there are way too many folks out there who will take what you publish and accept it for the Gospel Truth. Even the LDS FamilySearch site states a disclaimer for the information that it puts out on the web. I hope you will take this message for what it is worth and not take offense. You are a young man and perhaps are very trusting of a great many people. The problem is that there are just way too many unscrupulous folks out there who will take your information and will forever cloud the work of good, honest, and careful researchers. I do not mean to do anything other than to advise you. Thank you for allowing me my soapbox. Anne
