There are so many unscrupulous people in the world that it just boggles the mind. My point in all this is to DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, regardless of what someone has given you about genealogy. This means that we all must use what information someone has given us about a possible ancestor as a reference or starting point to prove the data for our ancestral lines. This means writing to sources, visiting archives, county courthouses, genealogical libraries, etc., in effect doing the same "legwork" that others have done. It also means citing our sources when we pass on information, or else stating that the data you are passing on is unproven. Please read the following and hope that none of your ancestors got mixed up in this fellows sites! "Beware of fraudulent lineages! For some time professional genealogists and serious researchers have been aware of the forgeries and frauds committed by Gustave Anjou (1863-1942). The sad fact is that Anjou was not a genealogist, but a forger of genealogical records that have been passed on for years to unwary clients and then through researchers who believed or wanted to believe the information. They in turn republished the material and the cycle continues. Anjou produced these "genealogies" for wealthy clients at a price of around $9,000 and the client, needless to say, always received what they wanted. Robert C. Anderson, director of the Great Migration Study Project included these features of a typical Anjou pedigree in his article, "We Wuz Robbed!" which appears in volume 19K: 1-2 1991 of the Genealogical Journal of the Utah Genealogical Association: 1: "A dazzling range of connections between dozens of immigrants to New England, for example, connections far beyond what may be seen in pedigrees produced by anyone else. 2. Many wild geographical leaps, outside the normal range of migration patterns. 3. An overwhelming number of citations to documents which actually exist, and actually what Anjou says they include, and 4. Here and there an invented document, without citation, which appears to support the many connections noted above. The article includes a list of 109 "genealogies" found in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, most catalogued under Gustave Anjou, H. Anjou or M. Anjou. In 1927, Anjou published a catalogue of 192 "genealogies," leaving many unaccounted for. If you or anyone you know, is researching any of these lines, you may have serious problems. Not only will these "genealogies" steer you into error, but genealogies that were published later and used this material for their source will be suspect. Does anyone know if church records in Union County have been transcribed or microfilmed? I am looking specifically for information from Shiloh and Dulin Grove Advent Christian Churches and Zion? Methodist Church. (and no, I haven't checked the Family History Center yet) My Baucom and Helms families are buried at Shiloh and Zion. I have Shiloh church bulletin from 1980 in which the birth of my cousin's baby was announced. First I would like to thank Gerald for posting this info. I had to scratch my head a bit to figure out who some of the extraneous folks in the various households were, but I can identify all but 3. I hope some of you out there will fill in those blanks. I have gone thru Gerald's list and added the maiden names of the wives, identified the widows who were heads of households, added details and/or corrections to the names of the children. Gerald, I've meant to ask you many times about the INGRAM portion of Charles' name. Is there any connection to an INGRAM family there in the area? And do you know anything about them? You know that my great grandmother's first husband was an Ingram and I've found nothing yet on his family. Since all roads from Union County, Arkansas seem to lead back to Union (Anson/Mecklenburg) County, North Carolina <g>, I've wondered if there could be a connection for: John C. INGRAM b. 12 Oct 1830 One issue that might infer that these Ingrams were not from NC is the wedding location of Alabama in 1854 (probably in Opelika or surrounds) for my ggrandmother Ann Eliza Smith & John Ingram. I do believe that the family history indicates his death, during the time of the War, occurred when John and Ann Eliza were living in El Dorado, UNION COUNTY, AR . . . the connection to NC. Gerald, I am in SC and only have access to the census index. I am trying to decide who to search for when I am at the NC Archives in a few weeks. The index only lists names and household #, so there is no indication of race. You could be exactly right. I will make a point of looking at the films in NC. Mary, I also thank you for your input. I have the names and other info for all of the children of Margaret James and Nathaniel Bivens, as well as those for William Bivens and Ellen Cornelia Maske. Wm and Ellen were my GGgrandparents. I would love to hear from others who are researching the Bivens family and related lines. All info appreciated. Census has the family of Margaret Bivens (widow of Nathaniel Bivens) in household 1003, the household of William and Ellen Bivens in household 1004 (they only had two children at this point 3 and 2/12) and in household 1005 is the family of Austin Helms.
