Dear Jo Ann: I found John B. Underwood as the son of William M. Underwood and Elizabeth (Betsy) Bickett. Bickett is the only clue I see - could it be John Bickett Underwood.? a descendant tree follows - I can send you a gedcom; if you wish. Would you care to update this file for permanent documentation for future genealogists. Can you send it as a gedcom. You might find a clue on Elizabeth's or John's death certificate. I'm looking for information to verify that John B. UNDERWOOD's middle name was actually BROWN. I have only heard it and can't prove it. Also, the parents of my brick wall for a number of years, of William M. UNDERWOOD. They were also born in NC, according to census'. John B. UNDERWOOD born 11 July 1850, married Mary Jane Helms, and was the son of William M. UNDERWOOD, born 1827 and Elizabeth, born 1821. All were born and died in Union Co., NC. William and Elizabeth had at least eight children: George W. Haulton UNDERWOOD b. 1848, Scarborough UNDERWOOD b 1849, John B.(rown?) UNDERWOOD 1850, Martha UNDERWOOD b.1851, Martin UNDERWOOD b. 1853, Jane UNDERWOOD b.1858, Eugenia UNDERWOOD b. 1859, and Terza UNDERWOOD b. 1860 If anyone is working on this line I would be very interested in hearing from you. Thanks for your time. Jo Ann e-mail: [email protected]
I am looking for any information on a John Brown who appears on the 1860 Union county census. He and his wife Margaret were from Ireland. The census states Jenkins Store as the Post Office and that he was a shoe maker. They had 6 children, Frances, Bridget, Lawrence, Sarah, Thomas and Lucy. Frances and Bridget were born in South Carolina and the rest were born in North Carolina. Sarah Brown, my gg-grandmother got married in 1876 in Marshall county Mississippi. I don't know what happen to them from 1860-1876. If anyone have any information I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hi Dan, I cannot remember if I answered your questions regarding Mary Sullivan. She would have been afro-american or mixed race. Linda

I'm just beginning my serious search for family history. My grandmother, Martha Jane Curlee married Lee Bailey Aycock in Union County in the 1890s. Her father was Thomas C. Curlee. His was Charles Augustus Aycock. I haven't been able to get earlier than that generation. Any leads? Brady Faggart <[email protected]>
Hi, I want to thank everyone who has responded to my query about Amos Threadgill. I have made several connections and just want you all to know that I am most finished updating my Threadgill webpage at http://members.tripod.com/~Linda_T/Threadgill . I still have to change some of the links and add some small graphics, but the text is done. This all of the information that I have (I think) on the Threadgill and related families. Again, thanks, Linda
Hi, This is all of the information that I have on Mary. Some of the other surnames attached to this family are Austin, Polk and Horn. I don't know if that will help you. This family was a mixed race family. I cannot tell you exactly what the mixture was. I am working on updating my website. When I am finished I will post the URL to the list. Thanks for responding. :) Linda
I don't have anything on Amos but do have the following: Descendants of Tabitha Sullivan 1 Tabitha Sullivan b: 1842 .. +Lee *2nd Husband of Tabitha Sullivan: .. +James Stephen Threadgill b: Abt. 1849 d: 1896 Do you anything else on Mary Sullivan? I thought I had most of the Sullivans in Union and Anson but I can't place her. I've got more odds and ends on Threadgills but no connection to your Amos. Dan

Riston(without the W) is also my fathers and my son's middle name. Is this a surname or place name in Union Co.? This name seems to originate there. Hi, I am looking for information on the family of Amos THREADGILL. I believe his parents to be Willey and Anne(Hanna). Wiley was born around 18o6. Amos married 2 times. First, Mary SULLIVAN and second to Margaret WILLIAMS. Margaret's and Amos's son, Vache is my husband's grandfather. The 1900 census shows them living in Union County,Marshville area. There is also an Anson County connection. Wriston Threadgill was also living in Union County and he was the brother to Vache. Wriston married (1) Nettie MANUS and (2)Hannah LEAKE, daughter of Peter LEAKE. Some of Amos's other children were: Thomas, Wellington, Walter, Nettie, Sylvester, B Atlas, Fred D.,Rena, Ola, lular, and Joseph. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Linda
Every time I look through the early marriage records of Anson County, I am puzzled by the following entry: Jan 8, 1869 Wilson Bivens, son of Ketter Bryan and Minder Bivens, and Eliza Chambers, d of Obediah Lowry and Wincy Chambers. Who are these Bivens? Is this John Wilson Bivens? Obviously all are going by their middle or nicknames. Can anyone help me identify these Bivens? I checked my book: Union Co NC Marriages 1843-1899 by Frances R. Small, but don't see a listing for their marriage. It's possible that they went to a surrounding county for the ceremony. You may want to check wherever they lived closest to: Anson Co., Mecklenburg Co., Stanly Co., Lancaster Co. SC, or Chesterfield Co SC, etc. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Griffin To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2000 8:56 AM Subject: [NCUNION] MARRIAGE LOOK-UP If someone has access to Union Co. marriage records around 1873-4 timeframe Would you be so kind as to give me a look-up for the marriage of William Ellis Griffin (son of William S.
